Headlight polishing

Post by swabyk »

Anyone used either of these products to remove the smokey headlight effect?

Watching the 2 videos on each page it seems the Autoglym one is far more detailed and processed in terms of the steps you have to do, the Meguiars one is quite simple, but is it as effective???

Both priced at £19.99, anyone used either?

Give them a good polishing using Brasso or Silver polishing fluid, probably best used with a small electric mop, cheaper than a kit and good results, I have used the method on motorcycle screen to get rid of scratches with good results.

I'm halfway through restoring my M front lights with this from screwfix on the end of my Makita:

So far so good :)

yep same here any polish that has a cutting effect will do.. Brasso, tcut, silvo, i dont know about autsol that may work too, and made much easier if you have a small mop on a drill... use some water too to cool it down and not melt the plastic... i did try some upvc cleaner that seems to get the oxide off, but leaves the plastic a bit soft, basically i think its like acetone.. but be careful with it use on a small section first

I used to do mine with 2500 wet and dry (used wet) then G3 cutting compound and a rotary polisher.
A little tip I learned was to use a polish like Autoglym super resin followed by a coating or two of wax to stop them clouding again. Just kept up the waxing and they were fine.
The first ones I did started to cloud again after a few months but with the polish and wax they were fine.
