Z1 Tour August 13th 2016

Post by Jet »

Bonjour, Ca va?

I caught up with many of you last year with a view to doing something in 2016. Its the 100 year anniversary of BMW and because we haven't had a proper tour in ages, the plan is to have a knees-up on August 13th. Would like to see you all there, as its been far too long.

The Tour
An early morning Z1 Tour in the Cotswolds from 9am, Ivor has offered to ride shotgun and lead (sorry Ivor :D)
Lunch stop about 12pm will be included in the plans, somewhere nice, then more driving until checkin at Wroxall Abbey Estate 2-3pm, sufficient time for partners to explore and enjoy the facilities.

Foodies
A buffet meal will be served from 5pm with live music by the excellent Jamie.
We will be joined by other club members for an evening sit-down meal from 7pm, where Z1 owners will be seated together, as I'm sure you have alot to talk about. Free bottle of beer or glass of wine for each guest, courtesy of BMW CC Insurance.

Entertainment
Live acoustic guitarist and close-up magician, raffles, auctions, and BMW Car Club Award ceremony until 11pm. After which the bar remains open until the early hours.

Costs
£45/person for the meal and entertainment, booked at the club office

Accommodation
Rooms are booked direct with Wroxall Abbey member rates are £85/Sgle £95/Dbl. 01926 484470 (reference BMW Car Club)
The hotel and grounds are very nice, old style manor features etc, some rooms have Jacuzzi, but that will be the higher priced premium rooms.
http://www.WROXALL.com

Parking
Wroxall sits within secluded private grounds and ample parking surrounds the picturesque building.

Gaydon
For those of you attending National Festival at Gaydon next day, it is 2 junctions aways on the M40, so an easy 15-20min drive.

Thats the bones of it gents, a few images below...

Hi Jet et al,

Just to make certain of plans for the proposed Z1 tour. Is it a definite?
Would like to know, so that I can decide between a road trip and the concours!

Z1s discover the Cotswolds 2016

Post by ChrisS »

THE date for your diary - Saturday 13 August 2016
Meet at 09.00 at The Easington, Bloxham Road, Banbury, OX16 9JU.
Bloxham Road is the A361 leading out of Banbury south-westwards towards Chipping Norton.
Banbury is just off M40 J11 and the pub is easily accessed either through the town centre or round Banbury's rather poor ring road.

The Easington has a large car park which should be empty since it usually opens at 10.00 but will open early for us for breakfast from 09.00.
I'll circulate a breakfast menu in a few days time.

We plan to depart shortly after 10.00 for a tour of about 100 miles, finishing up at Wroxall Abbey Hotel around 15.00 which is the earliest we can check in.

The route will be varied, taking in some of Oxfordshire's famously well surfaced lanes and some fine driving roads through Gloucestershire's open country. There will be a coffee stop at the Gloucestershire and Worcestershire Railway station at Toddington. With luck there will be at least one steam engine to see although probably not enough time to do justice to the railway centre.

For Jamal's benefit there will be a photo op to snap Z1s together with some finely weathered, moss covered Cotswold edifices basking in the August sunshine.

But enough about the Z1 owners.

If you would like to join this tour, we'd be pleased if you would reply in this thread.

Best wishes, Chris and Ivor.

Hi Chaps,

Thanks Jamal, as ever for getting this organised. I have just booked my room for the evening and yes please, count me in for the tour. I shall probably be in the CSL, as that is the one that I was taking to Gaydon, but I hope that is OK? I think I should squeak in on the tour as I have a zettie back home in the garage :-)

Thanks also to Chris and Ivor - organising these things is a thankless task so wanted to get mine in while I could.

See you all on the 13th, or at Silverstone if you're there.
Best regards,

Sam Lever.

Hi,

The plans for the tour are coming along nicely, Chris drove me around the planned route last Saturday. We even tried the coffee stop.
Sam the CSL is a ticket to ride with us.
Looking forward to catching up with everyone, Sadly we are not going to Silverstone Classic. Carfest north is calling.

Regards,
Ivor

Could I tag along at the back for the road run only? I sadly don't own a Z1 yet but I'll have my E9 with me as, like Sam, that's what I will be taking to Gaydon.
Thanks folks.

The Easington, our starting point in Banbury, on the A361 Bloxham Road, OX16 9JU, has asked for pre-orders of breakfast. Because they are opening specially early for us, there will be just the 'Full English' on offer, at £6.99 or the vegetarian option at £6.79. (Coffee is extra). Would you please let me know if you would like breakfast so that I can confirm final numbers to the pub on Saturday 6th August.
All the best, Chris S

Just wanted to thank Ivor and Chris for the excellent route for the Saturday drive. It was lovely to catch up with you all and nice to meet Steve and Richard in the other older car. We didn't disgrace ourselves, despite being 20 years older than you young whippersnapper Z1 lot :-)

Take care everyone and enjoy the summer.
Best regards,

Sam Lever.

Richard and I had a great time on Saturday, thank you all for making us feel very welcome. Our initial thoughts of the Tour being a leisurely drive around the Cotswolds were soon dismissed, my old CS certainly got its legs stretched that's for sure.

Breakfast was very good value and the route was excellent too.

Thanks again folks and hope to meet up with you all again very soon.

I would like to second the comments regarding the Cotswold Tour and the scenery that we travelled through. It was very enjoyable and interesting to have two of the older bretheren running with us. I have to take issue with a previous comment regarding those cars being older than the Z1's, but I notice that no issue was made about the extra 500cc that they had available! I would like to suggest that any further outings with the CSL and the CS have some sort of handicap applied, maybe a removal of one plug lead to equalise.
Roll on next year.

Thanks to Ivor for documenting the route for satnav. It's easy to get a bit blasé about the roads round here when you drive them frequently but I thoroughly enjoyed the company during the tour and at the evening celebrations at Wroxall Abbey.

Tanks to all who came along for making a grand day out.

I've almost got another route ready for 2017.
