|
|
Hi All,
Only having my Zed 2 weeks and I'm already thinking of some little mods to the car and just seeking some opinions, (hopefully) lol,
I have just ordered a wind blocker this morning which I feel is the most important to start off with but also thinking of............
Chrome gills, would these look good on the Titan Silver? and are they easy to install? had a look this morning and they seem to be held on with pointy clips lol any info on this would be great, re removal and refitting.
Chrome single oval tail pipe trim standard 1.9 back box, can't seem to find anyone who sells these. Current is standard black which has polished up ok but chrome would be nicer.
The Zed was originally specified debadged and was tinkering with getting the smaller M badges for the grill and boot, the Zed is a sport, with the M suspension and trim but anyone think fitting the badges would be trying to make it look something it isn't? ie a Zed 3M.
Thanks for any input

I had chrome gills on my arictic silver 1.9, & I think they looked nice. Threy are relatively easy to take off, if I remember rightly 2 screws & 3 poppers. One of the poppers is a bit hard to get to as it lines up with the hinge of of the bonnet. But you can order extra poppers from your local dealer for a few £££s.

Hi Titan Tim!
It's all a matter of individual taste.
Some will say yes, some will say no.
Personally, I think they look great and better than self coloured ones.
Having said that however, they were on the car when SWMBO bought it.

You've got that spot on TitanTim. Fitting ///M badges to a non-///M is a definite no no IMO. Stick with the debadged look - IIRC it was the standard look prior to the facelift in '99.

Hi Titan,
Thanks for posting the pic, they look like the way you have the reflection of the flowers, very nice, looks like I'm sold in getting a pair of these

Thanks for that, I was a little unsure, I don't usually like the debadged look on cars as it looks like they forgot to fit them at the factory but I do actually like it on the Zed so think will keep it clean looking

hmmmmmm well it's absolutely pouring with rain this afternoon in Staffs which scuppered plans to go for a drive
I couldn't sit around so found a stubby aerial I bought for the VXR a few months back and thought it didn't look right, doesn't look too bad on the Zed
Tim.

Bimey, we only had rain today lol no snow
Out of interest, in order to fit the hard top does the car have to have factory prep for this or are all Zed's fitted with the mounting points as standard?
Cheers,
Tim

I'm not 100% sure about the hard top mounts as we bought the Z complete with the top fitted. AFAIK the mounting points are standard but there is a fitting kit which incoprates the electrical connection and switch for the heated rear screen. Can someone else confirm please?

The brackets for the hardtop are not fitted as standard, and it seems that the fitting kits are in short supply and are a bit on the pricey side if you can find one.
There is the remote possibility that your car may have the fitting kit already on it, as a number of people have been flogging the hardtops separately from their cars. It is worth checking - you will have two covers with some fairly sturdy metal underneath on the edge of the car about level with the seat backs.
Cheers R.

Just my opinion but external ///M badges should be kept on the ///M's. The chrome gills look great on the Titan silver, and, if you like it, go well with a set of chrome door handles.

Thanks Titan and Robert, I had a look this evening when I put the roof down and doesn't seem to have anything fitted, never mind it was just a thought if I ever saw a hardtop come up for sale, I plan on using the car throughout the winter so I'm glad it has heated seats lol.
This evening I have spent waxoiling the underneath of the Zed, I have noticed the antichipping sealant peels off pretty easily on the inner sills behind the front wheels, in the line of fire from tire stones, worth checking this area as once the sealant starts to peel its easy for water to get behind and start rusting.

Hi Justin,
Yes I'm passing on that thought lol, will be going for the chrome gills next but I do want to add a little chrome to the interior just to lift it a little as with the black leather seats and black panels its a little dark feeling.

A couple of pics to show how the hard lid fits -
Near side mounting point (cover closed)
Near side mounting point (cover open)
The two star-shaped shrouds are where the hydraulic ram for the power hood operates.
