Torn diff arm bracket

For the benefit of those who wish to check their ///M diff arm brackets & cross member I'm reposting these pics on this new thread.

My car was under extended warranty at the time. However the diff arm bracket is not defined as a moving mechanical component so wasn't covered !

However after some persuasion BMW as opposed to the warranty underwriters, agreed to pay for the work. You can see the tear or crack in the bracket & even worst crack in the cross member which I believe is the axle carrier.

The new bracket on the new chassis component was cut off & the stronger bigger one welded on that spreads the load better. The repair was done by Scotthall body shop at Winchester in Sept 06.

The reason these problems were picked up was when I queried a clonking sound from the rear of the car that was caused by popped spot welds which were redone in the process of welding the new parts on.

Robin whats the chances if I pop down to scothall they will take a look at mine as they now have the knowledge of dealing with yours?

Beware of Scotthall. Their policy is if they inspect something & don't get any work out of it they may charge you for their time at £101 per hour !
Are you aware there's a problem or is it just to get it checked out ?
Bartley BMW would I'm sure take a look for free.
If it is problematic then go to Scotthall as they may get BMW to pay. Their body shop obviously have experience of mending as per the pics. The car needs to be put in a special jig that costs mega bucks they have to book up specially from BMW UK. It ensures all is aligned properly when they weld it back together. If yours is just a couple of spot welds gone then doesn't need all that palaver.
