About Brooklands Race Circuit
.
.
Constructed by 3,000 labourers before the First World War, Brooklands was the world’s first purpose-built motor circuit. It was also the birthplace of British aviation and part of the race circuit was used for military aircraft hanger space during the Second World War.

From the west
The picture below is a scale model showing the original layout of the circuit looking from the west, with the clubhouse in the distance. The lap record of 143+mph was set in 1935.

The eastern end of the circuit
Although much of the 2.75-mile famous banked circuit has been lost to housing and factories, the Brooklands Museum has preserved the most interesting section of the circuit. The area that remains today comprises the clubhouse and some of the restored 'sheds' plus the section of track to the right of this picture. At this point the banking is 29 feet high (and very slippery with autumn leaves).
