I've had a similar problem on & off over the 3 years or so I've owned the motor. It kinda cures itself but I've often found that you can help the cure along by applying firm pressure to the door when it slides down again after the 5/6 seconds. After it's gone down, you should hear a faint buzzing sound. Dunno what it is but just assumed it was the solenoid resetting itself. After a few goes, the problem's gone.

: Hi Group, Paul,

: I have an intermittent problem with my passenger door.
: I'll describe the symptoms:
: Normally, on closing the door, the door part comes up, then
: the window follows once the door is in place.
: In this instance, which has only happened a couple of times so
: far, the whole thing starts up together. So, when the door is
: rising from the lowered position, the window starts to rise
: above the door top at the same time. The door/window then travel to
: their fullest extent (maybe a liitle over in fact), stays there
: for about 5-6 seconds, then drops back down in the same manner.

: This eventually went away after about half an hour of messing
: with the inside/outside levers/buttons.

: I have consulted Paul's excellent door info on http://www.bmwz1.co.uk
: which gives great information on removal and replacement.

: I am just wondering where I should concentrate my efforts once I have
: the door off, as it's going to be a weekend job.

: Perhaps we could start a symptom/likely cause table up?

: regards

: Terry Lyons
