here are the facts :

- Z1 in europe runs around 20-25k EU ~ 20-25k USD
- shipping fee runs around 700-800 USD
- transfer fee, papers, etc 400USD
- Import process, EPA, DOT, custom fee ~ 10,000USD

So at the end you will be somwhere around 36-37k USD. Of course this is the worst case scenario, you might find a cheaper, import might takes 8500 instead of 10k but don't dream that you will get it under 30k. You will have to find a real junk with a lots of milegae to get it under 15k USD / EUR and sneak it in and spend a fortune on making it good.
The engine is easy since it is same as 325i but the other parts are expensive. I needed a belt for the door, a clip for the roof, a switch for the mirrors, a rear pad, rear rotors, intake hose, plugs, filters, O2 sensor, all the oils, rear main seal, rear transmission seal, front rotors, front pad, 1l brake fluid, water pump, timing belt, tensioner, coolant, a few bulbs, new battery (Bosch) and a fuel pump strainer. (I fixed the pump) and a radio (had some aftermarket in there which I did not like)
so this list is I think short and mostly maintanance items, but still took about 1kUSD out of my pocket. Imagine if you have a high mileage neglected car which needs a lots of parts. Each clip for the roof is 25usd (sort a like a bushing) and side markers are also expensive but I wil change the driver side, as the mounting clip is loose/broken.
SO it is all cheap considering this is a 12-13 y/o car with 40k+ miles if you ask anybody.
I still upgrade it and spend on it, day by day, this is a kind of car, always needs your attention. Reason ? It is an older car with lots of cool feature. My driver side door was also fixed just prior to purchase.
