if you are US based, try getting a serviceman based in germany to ship the car back for you. They get the cars pre-approved here, allegedly, which means they clear US customs in germany and the army/air force pay for the shipping, not definite on this but heard a story about how an officer from frankfurt got his into the usa.........
another problem is under show and display rules you can only drive 2500 miles per year. if you don't adhere to the rules, you risk having the car crushed. several people have gone the route of calling it a 325iAC, not a good idea as the DMVs are now wise to it and some people have had theirs confiscated. some time ago a friend and i looked into the viability of exporting a batch of these from germany into new jersey , whilst there is demand for the car, the high cost of purchase, shipping and then conversation to US spec, only to drive it a couple of times a year, just wasn't worth it..............

www.mobile.de

70 cars for sale between 16 and 40 k euro (10/25 k gbp).

cheers

: : Alright Chris, a fellow Yank here to give you some guidance. Check these sites out.....

: : http://www.autotrader.co.uk/ -->a good place to see what Z1's in the UK are on the market and some prices with a premium. Also check bottom of this home page for other links

: : http://www.autotrader.co.uk/TOPMARQUES/ -->the top marques site same as above but more for high end and unique cars

: : http://www.mobile.de -->many Z1's here. Get a German dictionary. If you switch to the UK site you don't get the Z1 listings in Germany. I did not take long to learn how to navigate the site.

: : http://www.carclassic.com/ -->> several Z1's here. These guys act as brokers. My car is still listed on their site but is no longer for sale.

: : Hope this helps, and have fun with importing it into the US. Running over razor blades would be more fun.

: cheers,

: : that said, i am a novice here and i am more interested in the last email, certainly than the first! . . . could you direct me to the Top Marques reference you made and perhaps even to the shop in Cardiff you mentioned . . . or any other good sites,"classifieds" or inside knowledge you may have as to where to find the z1's that become available . . . obviously looking for best condition/lowest mileage, but in particular i am seeking a black exterior like the cardiff one you cited . . . consider me a "sponge" for information for anyone who wants to educate me! . . . thanks so much in advance
: : best to all,
: : chris
