Hi Board, My drivers door has been making a decidely mechanical noise on the way up and down sinceI got it twelve months ago. The passengers door has been sweet as a nut. I've taken the drivers door off( a lot easier than I thought and many many thanks to the article by Paul D on the net on how to do it!). Now that the door is off I actually understand how it works! Basically the door runs in two slots that must be parallel. Hence the shims to sort out the fine manufacturing tolerances. However , after taking mine apart, I've found that someone has put the door together with out the care/skill needed, and I feel has left out some of the shims. This in turn, I presume,as the door was not in line, has increased the load on the motor /gear box that raises the door as it was out of alignment(?) . Hence the grinding noise!I need two things!! Does anyone know how to approx. shim the door? Also I need a new motor/gear box for the door part no. 67 16 2 291 237. Can anyone in europe phone your local BMW dealer for a quote. GB is very expensive.!!! It would be much appreciated. Also should I put a new door belt on now that I am this far? Are there any alternatives?
Yes Tim ,thanks for the hard work , the site is working fine!! It is a busy board, isn't it?
PS I love my car more than ever!
