: I have had the same ... not sure the name of the part but there is some kind of sensor in the door button mechanism ... i have always found the outside buttons a bit dodgy for closing the doors anyway ... have got used to leaning down and using the inside lever to close both doors...

: : Just remembered another question. My drivers door will not go up from pressing the exterior button. If I know what to replace I am quite happy to do it. My local BMW dealer wants £500 to investigate the problem!
