Z1 Message Board: Frequently Asked Questions
.

. Here is a brief explanation of some of the questions you may have about message board.

How do I reply or add to postings on the message board?

Click on the posting to which you wish to reply and complete the boxes at the bottom of the original message as follows:

  • Name: Enter your name, nickname or 'handle'
  • EMail: It's best to include your email address. This allows others reading your message to respond to you directly.
  • Subject: A few words summarising the topic of your message. This is the line that others see when viewing the index of messages.
  • Message: The original message is copied into the box with a colon at the beginning of each line. If you type your message in above this, readers will see the original posting at the end of your message. Alternatively, you may delete the original text if you wish.
Now all you need to do is click on Post Message'.

Can I practise sending messages somewhere private?

Yes, there's a link to a test board at the top of the main page, or you can click here.

Why didn't my post show up?

Your post most likely did not show up because your browser did not reload the page, it simply pulled the old version out of cache. Reload/refresh the page and it should then appear.

Why are there colons in the message when I post a follow up message?

A single colon in front of the lines indicate they are from the message being replied to. If it was in turn a reply to a previous message, it may be appended with two lines of colons, etc.

How do I start a new message thread?

There's a posting form at the bottom of the main page. You may have to scroll down to see it. Otherwise, follow the instructions in 'How do I reply or add to postings?'

Can I upload files to the message board?

No, but you can link your posting to files that are available elsewhere on the Internet using the link boxes (explained below).

What are the three 'link' boxes in the message dialogue window?

  • Append this image: This is a link to an image available on your website (or elsewhere on the Internet) in a standard URL format, for example 'http://www.zroadster.org/red.gif'. When the message is read, the image is retrieved in real time and automatically added to the message. The image is not stored on the message board.
  • Provide link to this document: This adds a link to a web document or image at the end of your message. For example, to add a link to Microsoft's Barney Resource Centre, you would enter a URL of 'http://www.microsoft.com/Barney/'.
  • Title for link: Use in conjunction with the URL above to provide a meaningful label, e.g. 'We love Barney (NOT!)'.

Can I put html tags anywhere in my posts?

You can use < > HTML tags in the body of the message.

Where can I get the scripts for this program?

The message board is based on Perl scripts originally created by Matt Wright. The originals are free to anyone who wishes to use them and you can get them as well as other scripts at: http://worldwidemart.com/scripts/. Enjoy!
