The bulb on far left pointing forward and the bulb second from the left pointing upward are stock. There are only 2 from the factory. I added the one on the far right. On left hand drive cars, looking at above pic, fan speed is on the far left, then temp, then distribution on the far right. The lighting in the HVAC unit in my 97 Z3 was never very even. The lighting in the HVAC unit in my 01 M Coupe was not even either. This has always irritated me. Some people either do not notice or else somehow some cars are better than others. I don't know. With 3 bulbs, the lighting is more even and I am pleased. It's still not as even as the interior lighting in my $18,000 Volkswagen, but it's is better. This is the end result on my 01 M coupe, but the pic does not do it justice. In real life, it is better than the pic:
For what it's worth, I think your car is put together correctly. Maybe a bulb is not fully locked into the back of the HVAC unit, but it sounds like both are working properly. Jon Maddux
