Greg - thanks for that advice. I had the tracking checked in the summer, at the same time as replacing the original runflats with these Falkens. The RFTs which I replaced had worn more evenly than the current tyres (front and back). I gather from your post that you think the tyre quality is not to b...

The engine is made predominantly of magnesium and aluminium alloys.

Wiki has your answer: The 190hp is the older M54 engine, whereas the 177 and 218 are variants of the newer N52 engine. The N52 is all alloy, and is more lightweight and fuel efficient. The N52 is fitted to the later 2006 facelifted Z4s. I believe the Wiki article may refer to US spec engines. See: h...

Tyre feathering

I have had a peculiar problem with Zed for some time. I hear a droning noise from the rear axle, which is most obvious on smooth roads, at speeds of below 40mph. Above 40, general wind / road noise drowns out the drone. The pitch of the drone is proportional to road speed, not engine speed. My first...

Re: Z4 likes and dislikes

Would you buy something else next time? Quite possibly. Anyone have experience with a Boxster or an S2000 ? Having owned a Honda previously, I might have a little more faith in S2000's reliability and build quality. I don't really fancy the torque-less engine though. Don't know much about Boxsters ...

Interesting. Quite a few aspects of the Z4 design split opinion. We all seem to agree on liking the performance, handling and efficiency. Seems that most of the roadsters develop annoying rattles, too. I could forgive a few creaks from the roof, but rattling trim or buttons could be avoided by bette...

Comfort. Can literally drive all day without feeling particular discomfort. Interesting. I'm guessing that the M has sports seats. Certainly these will have better lateral support. Roof Design. Again, something I have to live with to otherwise enjoy ownership. Before the car was launched BMW and so...

I'm not getting in to that whole Z3 vs Z4 thing. It can turn nasty. I think both have their pros and cons. I have fond memories of my Z3.

Z4 likes and dislikes

I’ve had my 3.0 Z4 since May, and have covered a fair few miles in it, including five weeks touring France, Switzerland and Spain. I’ve compiled a list of likes and dislikes; I’d like to see how other owners feel about their Zs. I thought the thread might also be useful for someone contemplating a p...

As has been mentioned on other posts regarding this problem, you could always find an amp/speaker unit from a breakers.

relay from Maplin

I've just had the same problem. I fixed it by replacing the relay mentioned above. It was available at Maplin. The part number is JM 67. It cost £1.31. It is about a 1 to 1.5 hour job to change the little blighter.

Thanks for the advice chaps. I fixed the stereo ! I fitted a new relay from Maplin. £1.31. Beats the BMW price of >£100 for new speaker / amp assembly. The Maplin part number is JM 67.

Thanks guys, I'm really impressed by the knowledge base on this forum, and the willingness of people to give help. I only wish I had the knowledge to help others in return. I suppose the extra amp on the front mids explains the better sound when faded front not rear. I had assumed that better speake...

audio problems

Dear forum members, I am having audio problems. Perhaps someone has experienced similar and could give me some advice ? The car is a 2001 Z3 3.0. The audio is BMW Business radio cassette. The stereo powers six speakers- a pair of tweeters at the front (in the doors), a pair of woofer / mids at the f...
