Like the Zeds Tim, many are 10yrs + now and getting on so spares are plentiful and again like BMW there are loads of indie's out there offering top notch work at a fraction of the dealers prices :)

My advice would be to keep looking. The rust issue would be a big concern for me as generally they just don't rust, which could indicate a poor accident repair. I had my 2.8 sat next to Ragtops 2.2 and his was a far sweeter sound than the 2.8 it was also quicker up and down the revs and not so ponderous.
Wait until you hear the 2.2 in the flesh :D
