Re: Getting the Spare Wheel out

Yes that worked. A spray of WD40 and a firm yank downwards and out it came. Tyre is quite flat - I didn't realise it can be inflated from the back of the car without removing it.

Actually that video was my start point, but it only tells you how it's supposed to work, and mine has some sort of issue. Looks like I need get it up on stands and take a closer look. Thanks all.

Getting the Spare Wheel out

I've had the car for over three years and never done this, and there's a road trip coming so I thought I'd better check. I've undone the nut under the storage tray on the driver's side of the boot, and used the handle to unscrew the one in the middle. Supposedly then you lift, press together the spr...

Petrol filler cap

Well questions don't come much more basic than this. My filler cap was leaking, and my mot guy changed it for a generic that's very hard to get off. My local motor factor guy says any generic is likely to be the same, go to BMW. Is he right, or is there an ebay type one that will do the job. Thanks.

Re: Anyone use a wind blocker ?

I've got a plastic one that I got from the 'bay. Works fine, but you can't put things behind the seats when the roof is up, because there's not enough gap between the blocker and the roof. It's not that quick to take on and off either.

The aerial mast is missing presumed stolen. There isn't a thread left to screw another one into though, so I don't think replacing the grommit will be enough. I'll look for the other thread that mrscalex referred to.

How to fit a new aerial

One day this week my aerial went awol. Maybe someone broke it off, but whatever, it needs replacing. The bit showing through the hole in the wing is just this http://i934.photobucket.com/albums/ad183/saturdaygig/Z_aerial_hole_zps034fayg8.jpg so there's no base left to screw another aerial into. Mine uses about that as well and I think it's unusual. I change the oil on the Jag V6 every year and it doesn't need any top up in between.

... just wait until this obsession with fitting electronic handbrakes to modern cars comes back to bite the 3rd and 4th generation owners!!! The OEM is not worried about them  . The test for handbrakes is wrong, IMO. It should be a static test, but it's a dynamic test. Corroded drums will fa...

So how does the handbrake work then? I assume because it has rear disks there must be an independant system for the handbrake.

Strange problem - car won't move

It had been standing for a couple of weeks and I tried to use it monday. It started fine, but when I tried to pull away it wouldn't move, it felt kind of line there was a brick under the wheel - under one wheel even because it sort of slewed as it tried to move. I thought right away, it's not like a...

Re: Help needed to fit CD changer

Well, autochangers are last century's technology really aren't they. Since Z3s have a standard single din head unit that's dead easy to swap out, why not splash out £45 on one of these, which plays mp3s from a front USB. The another £8.75 here and you'd have yourself a 150 disk auto changer.

Re: Head unit - CD changer compatibility

Or swap the head unit out for an cd/mp3 head unit, then you won't need an autochanger at all. Since the standard unit is standard single din size, they slot right in. I have a Kenwood that takes an SD card behind the faceplate (I have about 50 albums on mine but as many as you like really). Then I u...

I like to fit mp3 head units, kenwood and poineer make several for every budget. This one is only £75 and you can connect ipods, mp3 players, usb stick with mp3s (and most other formats) into the front socket, or load up an SD card and put it in the slot behind the faceplate. I use a 16Gb SD card th...

Euro Tour - storing stuff behind the front bumper

my G/F and I are setting off for a three week drive to Rome next month. I've taken the auto-changer out of the boot (bless the mp3 head unit) so we can take full advantage of that space. Here it is, finally. The seal round the edge of the windsreen wasn't fully stuck down the bottom edge could lift in the wind. I squeezed some clear silicone sealant under it. You can just see a bit of it now where it's seeped out a wee bit. http://i934.photobucket.com/albums/ad183/saturdaygig/seal_z...

I found it! The windscreen seal isn't tight, and I put some tape around it and onto the top of the windscreen at the drivers side. All quiet. Now I just need to find a propert solution...I'm thinking of lifting the seal and putting some clear silicone under there? Opinions?

Does anyone else get this? Over 60 to 70 an intermittent whiney noise starts up. It sounds like it comes from high up and I think it's wind noise from the front to of the hood, possibly. I'm hoping someone will have heard this and fixed it!

New Owner 3 questions so far

Hi My girlfriend and I just bought a 2002 Z3 2.2 in silver with black interior, with a plan to drive it to Rome in the summer. I've been fiddling, and three questions so far: First, I fitted a smart kenwood MP3 head unit that looks and sounds great, so I took out the CD auto changer. It's left an ho...
