Are you sure the fluid you saw under the car was not just water (condensation) which is what you will get from any car with AC on it that has been running, sounds to me someone has been taking the mickey re needing to spend a £1K when a test has shown it to be ok... you are supposed to run a AC syst...

A tip I was given if you want to know if the paintwork wants 'claying' is put a plastic bag (freezer bag will do) on your hand then wipe it over the paint work with the flat of your hand, it really magnifies any comtaminates you may have on it, try it!

Mates wife used scotchbrite once (and only once) to get dead flies off the screen on his motorbike, luckily I got it all polished out at work.

You could also just drill a hole at the crack end to stop it going any further about an 1/8th dia should do the trick.

It's what we did in the aero engine industry on the tin ware etc.
