The answer has to be no! Only fitted on the 2.5 (US only model) and 3.0i. This basically comes down to alternator pulley diameter and for the 3.0i this is 55mm. On other engines it may possibly be larger I would suspect. So, it is not required on your motor. Im sure we'll find out if this is not cor...

The belt deflector pulley is only on the later engines and is fitted on an extended alternator top support bolt. It improves the belt 'wrap' on the alternator. The bearing on this idler often goes 'dry' and can rattle badly. Sounds a lot like a US water pump.

If it's a second car you can insure it as a Classic with Hagerty. Excellent company to deal with and run by adults. None of this nonsense about different wheels, add on racing stripes etc. etc. costing extra. Just send photo and mention this forum.

That analogy would work if the dog cost £10k+ (and counting) and was not called Rusty! Like it or not, my Zed doesn't come out unless the hood can go down. The Daily is quite adequate to keep the rain/snow/fog et al off my curly locks!

Just a suggestion - the bearings in the (black) idlers for the serpentine belt dry out and sometimes have a tendency to rattle when the engine shuts down.

This is really not that big a deal. To satisfy yourself just do a 'dry run' on one side first. The following points will make it even more simple. Cut off the dam tabs, they're totally not needed! Er.. won't the superglue glue crack when the screen gets folded? An excellent tool for putting the frayed edge back in - a B&Q Diamond card, works a treat and it's free.

ktg1000, yes I fitted the water pump (and new idlers and belts etc.) but I,ve suffered from grease covered hands for half a century (it was me that modified the propshaft bearings on Noahs houseboat). It's not a difficult job but some experience would be useful.

Hi ktg1000 , you don't change bearings in a water pump. Quite difficult to do and not cost effective. I have used Elring 0191 491 5678 who imports from Germany (all metal rotor) and are super quick on delivery. Cost was £46 (for my 3.0i). Sensible people to deal with. Mention this forum. Whether or not a strut brace improves rigidity would surely depend on how much the tower moved before the strut brace was fitted! Just my two cents: black plastic grills look to be exactly what they are - black plastic grills! Look good on Astra's etc.

Hi Courageous, maybe the codes are old problems that didn't get reset for some reason or another. If the motor is running fine and you're getting 32 mpg (I wish I could) then the O2 sensors are OK. Maybe best to clear the codes and use the smile switch (mine won't go off)!

No good sensible reason for replacing undamaged springs, and it is a change in the dimensions of the springs that lower the ride height. From your symptoms it could be that may have a slightly loose caliper.
