High percentages of ethanol in petrol is bad news for classic car drivers. We had a bit of a discussion about this a little while ago on the Healey forum. Apparently ethanol is bad for aluminium carburettors. I think this has more to do with the fine capillary tubes in them, but if it is a reaction...

Re: V-Power

I didn't mention V-Power - the question was about the 'e10' 95 octane available in France - which is crap! No doubt the use of ethanol will spread, as it is a cheap anti-knock additive, and the Green people love it. I have found that the use of V-Power in France results in a lot higher fuel consump...

Re: SP95 e10

The problem with ethanol-diluted petrol is that while the ethanol (ie vegetable alcohol) is a good anti-knock agent, it is a poor fuel, so you will use more of it. I would avoid like le plague! Most cars manufactured after 1997 can tolerate it, but earlier cars will need the replacement of all rubb...

Thanks for the replies, I "brimmed" the tank last time with V Power, at the time I had just over the red line with sainsburys normal unleaded. I`m guessing that if the two fuels are mixed this may confuse the ECU possibly? (I`m no mechanic!) I`m down to the red line again so off to shell s...

You may not notice an immediate improvement with the first tank because of cross contamination. It depends how "empty" you are when you switch. Hi Filled up with V Power - cant say I noticed a major difference if any at all? Reset the the trip meter, I`m at 220miles and near the red zone!...
