Felix
According to my notes the rivet for the door brushes is 51 47 1 911 992.
This is the same as is used on the rear bumper cover fixing.
Sounds as if you guys had a great and very busy weekend. Sorry to have missed it, both for the workshop and the socialising. See you in the Cotswolds.

For those interested in tackling the doors I would reccommend purchase of the following Z1 specific parts in advance. Well done Jet and Michael! Great idea and I wish you every success. I made the trip to Munich for my door lessons a few years ago but this is much closer to home and will be invaluable to demystify the process. Regret that I will not be around that weekend as my daughter is getting married. I have b...

Ben Franz does not have much English. Get polishing the German! Pointing and looking seems to work well for car technical stuff so I think you can learn a lot without good German. Have a good visit Pat By the way I finally fitted your 'old' standard exhaust this summer after my original looked too b...

Well Senna, My Zetti is a trifle upset at being referred to as Pre-production. It's build number is ALO 1555 a UK supplied car. Built late 1989, first registered 1st January 1990. I really don't think you would call this pre-production and it certainly was not fitted with the rear cover strip ex fac...

Side flasher repeaters were factory fitted to all Z1s where they were a market requirement. Hence all UK cars sold by BMW dealers here have side repeaters. Why not be original if they will cover your holes? They are shown on the Z1 parts list and the Nos. are 63 13 2 297 091 and 092. They are the sa...

I'm with Sam on this issue. I went on a Z1 repair course with the German club a few years ago and among other things we took two cars doors apart and replaced belts and bits and pieces. Hi, was reminded by Sam's (sfh31) comments about brake feel that I would be interested to know if any of you gave fitted new brake hoses of the "Goodridge" type, and whether they improve pedal firmness. It must wise to replace the flexible hoses on any car over 15 years of age! Incidentall...

Alpina ZI
Hey Stu Don't get too excited. The Alpina Z1 for sale in Germany is not an RLE. It is probably one of the extra ones that Alpina screwed together with the parts they had left over when they had finished making the numbered RLE models. I would not expect it to be as valuable as a real RLE. Anyone els...

Do you think the German car is a genuine RLE ? I thought they had clear front sidelight/indicator lenses.
Wheels look great. IMHO

Jet On a more serious note! The tow hook is attached to the chassis by two bolts. The tow hook and bolts also secure the flexible shock absorbing loop which the bumper reinforcement is attached to so you can't simply discard it. Looking at the parts diagram and having read Paul Drawmers note on fitt...

I was astonished to hear that the Z1 body panels may have been produced in the USA. I have never heard or seen any evidence to this effect. Hi Felix The lump you have found is not a vibration damper. It is a compensator weight. It lives in the right rear wing and is to adjust car balance when driven one up. It is supposed to equalise handling on right and left locks and probably helps balance under braking as well. If you are two up I g...
