Personally I wouldn't waste my money on a hard top  If you clean and proof the hood properly you shouldn't have any problems going through the winter. Wouldn't it be better getting the softop replaced along with any dodgy seals if you have a leak or the hood is getting past its best. I think...

I agree, £25 per wheel? what makes you think they have no work?, you already stated all the work thats in involved, i've had wheels done for £35 and £50 a wheel, and £200 a set is good value for a proper job. As for economic down turn, i'm in the motor trade and we have more work than ever with peo...

Can someone tell me how much hard tops and fitting kits go for or even if they are still available. What would BMW charge for these and is there anywhere else you can buy them from. I think cam postion sensors too. I had this problem with my 2.0 Zed Yeah these do go.... I had the TDC position sensor on the 635 go, and it wouldn'd start. The cam and TDC were the same part on that, it was basically a magnet, but the resistance rises with age to the point where its too high to al...

Re: Alloy Wheel Refurbishment
If I ran a wheel refurbish company and read that I wouldn't give you the time of day, You make it sound like we are doing them a favour by using them, not them doing us a favour by doing a lower price for a group buy. At the end of the day they are in business to make a profit and at £25 a wheel wh...

Drive issues, the conclusions
OK, so after almost unanimous opinion that the gearboxes never go, and that you can't wreck a ZF box etc etc.... I changed the gearbox anyway, and the car is about 100 times better to drive. I managed to get a gearbox out of a left hand drive car with only 50,000Km on it, so it is pretty good now. T...

Re: Gearboxes
There are lots of S5D gearboxes, but they are not all the same as the ZF S5D 320Z HMW box of the larger Z3. For example, the E46 323 uses an S5D gearbox, as does the 1.9 and 2.8 Z3, but the decisive bit is the type code - which on a 1998 2.8 is HMW, which is common to E36 models with 2.8 litre engi...

IIRC, it varies between insurers, but you can make upto 2 claims in any 1 year and a max of 3 claims in 5 years if you have protected NCD. If you inform the insurers, but don't make a claim, it shouldn't affect your NCD. Some people, well those who have no concept as to their vehicle's dimensions w...

In this economic climate the 2.8-M's are the best value by far. The 2.8 is relatively basic, and should be easy to find a pretty good one used, as their is a lot more choice out there. The 2.0 may not use much less fuel than the 2.8, BUT the M uses considerably more fuel than the rest (so I believe).
