Fellow MTBer here. Went to full sus back in '99, and still running the same bike (Specialized FSR XC Pro). Try the Specialized FSR XC range if you're into general cross country stuff. Can't go wrong with them. Copes with all sorts, including more extreme stuff like Coed Y brenin, etc.

was looking at the GT i-drive range - they seem to have some decent bikes - a mate has also told me that he can get Cannondales at trade plus VAT - so may have a look there.
I have a boot rack on the Z - was wondering if i could strap the bike on it - have you ever tried ?

Another MTBiker reporting to duty.
I ride fullys for 8 years now.
Used to use Cannondales, then swaped to BMW (it's true, don't ask), currently I have two, CC and "enduro".
Would highly recommend the Rush model from Cannondale. It has been a while since I ride such a nice bike...go on and test it. You'll see this is the one to get.
Specialized is also an option. All I hear are positive comments.
Lappiere could also be an option.
Make a good choice and TEST THE BIKE BEFORE YOU BUY IT. If it "fits". I am sure you have a specialized dealer that rents test bikes...
Are you familiar with this page?

Myself and Rocky Dave been keen 'MTB'ers' (esp RD) for many years, trails, long distance(200+ miles) with all our gear plus also 'Roadies', full carbon. As far as MTB, Dave has a Rock Mountain full sus, which has given him years of service. I started at the bottom with a Carrera Kraken hard tail which gave very good service but then went down the full sus path and bought a GT i-Drive, a good bike but carried a weight penalty (nick named by my biking mates as the "Brunel Bomber!". When I got my carbon fibre Trek road bike I soon got rid of the GT and bought a Scott Spark full sus from Rutland Cycles (local). It's not carbon fibre but its seriously light, with great spec and suspension lock out at my finger tips on the handle bars. Release the lockout and it'll handle most off road stuff, and ask RD I love night riding in forests plus going off the tracks too!! As far as the price, it depends on how much you want to spend. IMHO spending less than £1000 on a full sus MTB is pushing it with quality and weight. My Scott cost £1500 in the autumn sale (good time to buy, as next years stock coming on line) and what a difference. You can go on spending a whole shed load, but if you have to answer to the other half ?? On the other hand, if your not doing much 'real' off road then a hard tail should be better. When we do our longer trips and not much off roading (Celtic Trail in June 200+) I bought another Kraken as new off ebay for about £250 3 years ago. Infact for these trips we all use hard tails.

It just depends on what you want to do with the thing and I'd advise not to buy cheap, as you will regret it! Autumn sales a good time to buy and haggle, because they desperate to shift last years stock. Thats my honest opinion, others my differ, so also read the MTB mags........loads on the shelf. Good luck :rtm: :thumb:
