Come on Shanty don't leave us in suspense what's the interesting car?

Not the ideal time of year to sell as you know so must be something special for you to give up the S54

I'm waiting until the spring and looking to go American

Good luck with the sale :thumb:

mmmm you know the risks well of highlighting adverts on a specialist forum (ie they will get picked to pieces :D )

Most of the S54 changes you list actually applied from 04/99 S50 cars (eg roof soundproofing, 2 stage airbag, etc....) and so are not S54 exclusive

Also I know you got the bearing shells replaced but given it was generally accepted the ones removed from your car actaully looked fine and did not need replacing don't you think the comment "If you take the risk (ie of not replacing them) you are running a high chance of complete engine failure" is over the top
after all the vast majority of S54 engined cars have had absolutely no problems with these :rtm:
ps so far as I'm aware the problem was not that they were inferior quality as you suggest but rather they were made with too small a tolerance ie it could be argued they were made too well :D The common thought is that those cars not affected by now won't be as the shells have bedded in. I actually think you've over played the bearing shells in the advert in any case and are in danger of putting more people off ? (ps its makes no odds to me as mine have been done 8-) )

Good luck with the sale though, I'm intrigued whats made you put it up for sale but appreciate you want to keep it under your hat for now :D

Well, all I will say is don't sell the Zed and find you get passed by one on the motorway and decide you want another aka 321bhp  :?

If you do sell the car and the purchaser doesn't want the strut brace I'm interested but not at £400, as indicated in the PH ad. I just missed out on one on e-bay that went for £209 (I was on holiday).

Best of luck with the sale, must be buying something really interesting to get out of an S54.

Jon - Yep thats fine haha pick me up on it! ok i'll edit the advert in regards to the extras.

As for the bearing shells I still completely stand by what I said, we both know of failures on the S54 Z so imo an owner would be stupid to not carry out the recall on their Z. It was so bad even BMW had to put their hands up and issue a recall on M3's!!

I wouldnt assume the vast majority dont have problems, Randy forbes said that 9 out of the 12 s54 Z cars he saw had wear outside reasonable tolerances so at some point whether it be 30K or 100K they would fail (i'm not a gambling man but what sort of odds are those!!). You also say you think by 40k they would have 'bedded' in and you are safe...I dont think thats true either, over on bimmerforums I found failures on cars over 80k, granted the more mileage decreases the risk but i'd still carry out the maintenance. Some of the 12 cars randy had seen were of higher miles.

You previously said yourself if your S54 hadnt had the recall done you would carry it out! Just because by 40k mine had little wear doesnt mean I shouldnt have done it. I only found this out by changing them! You and I both know BMW should have included the Z3M in the recall, using the lower redline as a shield to not carry out the replacement is a poor excuse and clearly an invalid one

At the end of the day its £800 over possibly £12,000 and a whole lot of worrying about whether they may or may not be ok

So that parts staying i'm afraid ;) anything else?

Also you have PM about the possible new car

Tim - I know I may regret it, i'm still not 100% sure so this thread and the advert may disappear soonish 8-)

I kinda know how you feel, I tend to get very itchy feet with cars and get bored with them and hence change. I'm trying to change my ways, if anything its just costly to do especially on newer cars and after I've spend a shed load on bits and pieces and then not enjoy them on the car. End of the day if its a hobby and makes you happy, you can't ask for more

I have to agree with shantybeater in replacing the shells, even if it does look a bit odd to potential buyers. I had supposidly nothing wrong with my Vanos but decided last week as you all probably read to have it serviced as a precautionary measure. i am now happy if anything does go wrong at least i tried to allay it. As shantybeater was keeping his car at the time of his actions then that was his judgment. Nothing against your remarks Jonttt

Personally the advert is to attract buyers and hopefully get them to call so there's no way I would start talking about problems associated with the car. Your Market is not just informed BMW fans. If someone asks then Tell them. Reading your ad is supposed to be a positive experience So I would Get rid of fhe negatives and use the space to tell the world how great they are etc etc. Its a great looking car with good Mileage and price so it should sell itself. IMHO the ad will talk people out of buying one as it just goes on about risk and costs.

Thanks for the input guys I've removed most of it from the advert, i think you are probably right I dont want to scare buyers away

If anyone has any other comments for improvement of the ad (good or bad!) fire away! I appreciate the input..

Better :thumb:

But I would still remove the bearing reference from the title (you talk about it in the ad which is fine) and replace it with something like no.x of 74 ie emphasise the rarity, "one of the rarest ///M cars ever produced etc....

Matts right, its easy to over think the negatives when your so familiar with a car, remember how you looked at the car when you bought your first  your not trying to hide anything but you are trying to sell it

I had an uncle in the motor trade and he always used to say that less is more. Only put enough info in the add to get people to pick up the phone. Also remember that the only job of the phone call is only to get them to come and see the car. Once you have them on the phone you can start to judge how knowledgable they are and what you information share so they come and see it.

Once you have them in your clutches, well......

Si.
