FOR SALE: 2001 Z3M Roadster S54
FOR SALE: 2001 Z3M Roadster S54
All,
I am posting the details of my S54 Z3M Roadster to gauge interest. If I can get the right amount for it I may tear myself away and invest in an M135i but if only the right amount. I really don't know what that is given the rarity - I guess we could gauge interest at £9,500? I have only seen a single one advertised in the last 12 months other than mine!
Details:
I bought it last year with 88k on it - have put on 6k since so now at mid 94k. It seems not to have been modified in any way except for a braided clutch cable (as far as I can tell) and has been used well but also been looked after properly. It is certainly not "showroom" but cleaned well looks the business. The photos below were the ones the previous seller sent to me - I will try and get some of my own up soon.
The near side rear wheel is kerbed - nearly all the way round (don't ask). One of the others is not perfect either. Rear tyres are nearly on their way out (you may have seen my post about whether I should burn them out on a track day). One of the rears has a (very) slow puncture - ie. get it to right pressure and warning light comes on 4-5 days later.
I have to say that the interior picture makes the seats look in a lot better condition than they are - the driver bolster has a slight tear in and the leather is reasonably "cracked) - I will try to take a close up picture later and add it.
I have a folder of receipts but the brief summary is below. I have a matching hard top (well - not quite matching as the paintwork has slightly faded on the car itself compared to the hard top). I have had an independent BMW specialist look over it (they did last service) and found no big issues - boot welds fine, diff mount fine.
19/11/01 Pre-delivery check
19/11/01 Running In 1201 (BMW dealer)
02/07/04 Oil Service 22876 (BMW Dealer)

03/06/08 Inspection II 59627 (Independent BMW Specialist)
28/06/09 Oil Service 74629 (Independent BMW Specialist)
01/12/09 Inspection I 79330 (Multi brand dealer)
07/12/09 Coil Springs, ABS sensor, Accel sensor
15/04/10 New hood
16/05/10 Clutch
28/08/10 Oil Service 83371 (Private)
16/08/11 Brake discs, Accel sensor
02/11/11 Wheel hub
20/08/11 Oil Service 86085 (Private)
29/01/12 Battery
12/03/12 Braided clutch line
Me:
30/08/12 Rear top mounts 89240
09/04/13 Oil Service 93906 (Independent BMW Specialist)
09/04/13 Tensioner wheel
So lengthy gaps between early services but lots of frequent activity. Not quite sure why the first inspection in the book is a II and not a I.
Happy to answer any and every question!

Very nice! But not for me!!
Price seems right... and even cheap! If I'm right, the S54 engine is the one everyone dream of...

Re: FOR SALE: 2001 Z3M Roadster S54
If I was looking at the rarity factor of the s54 v s50 then 'FOR ME' it would need to be below £50k miles to pay the premium price tag and accept It as a long term investment / future classic. Can't really comment on your asking price any more than my own opinion above, as you say there haven't been many s54's on the market recently. I do know of a few 'good' low mileage s50's going for £6.5k recently though which kind of makes me glad I crashed mine and got paid out ALOT more. Petrol prices seem to have really bitten down asking prices hard the last few months. Good time to buy a Z3M in my opinion.
Re: FOR SALE: 2001 Z3M Roadster S54
The S54 ///MR RHD is indisputably one of THE rarest production cars ever to come out of the BMW stable. At this point in their lives, you cannot procrastinate about mileage and condition....irrelevant of whether the S54 ///MR is a good car or not, you either want one or you don't, right.....?chrisp_1 wrote:If I was looking at the rarity factor of the s54 v s50 then 'FOR ME' it would need to be below 50k miles to pay the premium price tag and accept It as a long term investment / future classic.
If the description is correct, all the cosmetic issues with this particular car are fixable, and if you want to achieve a 'showroom queen' out of a 12 year old car, then you need to put some work (and money) in.
Gooseacre, unless you're desperate for the money, your price is way too low. If you can afford to wait for the right buyer, your car will be worth more than that. If you can't wait, then your buyer will reap the rewards of the almost-certain appreciation.
Oh, and yeah.... I do have a vested interest...
Good luck with the sale....
Cheers.

I agree your price is too low for this sort of car.
And regarding the s50 cars, you won't get what I call a mint car for less than 8-10k.
Mint has different meanings to different people!

Re: FOR SALE: 2001 Z3M Roadster S54
I wouldnt call the mileage high for its age tbh id rather buy a used and loved car than one that's sat parked up which can cause problems to a new user as its brought back into use. value is whatever someones prepared to pay and its a buyers dream time at the moment agree values will go up tho

Re: FOR SALE: 2001 Z3M Roadster S54
I think your price is about right. With z4m's advertised as low as 12k with 50 thou miles on your getting close to overlapping if you go higher.
I'm sorry to say but with the mileage on this car is not going to be one that gains a lot of value, it will always be a good user car.
All my very own opinion btw.
Having said that, I wish you the best for the sale!

Re: FOR SALE: 2001 Z3M Roadster S54
i agree with earlier post you could ask for more
And thats not being greedy, high mileage "its a bmw"
A most desirable car you have there
I'm often told mines not run in with only 31k on the clock

Re: FOR SALE: 2001 Z3M Roadster S54
It's worth as much as someone's willing to pay for it..
I think 9.5k is a fair price in its current condition.. 94k wouldn't put me off as long as its mechanically sound..
If it were mine and I wanted to sell I would get all the niggles sorted as there not major and appeal will be greater
Good luck with the sale

Hi Goosacre
Thanks for the heads up on this one, but it's probably not one for me for various reasons.
Good luck with the sale.

Looks fab, good luck with the sale.
I take it if your looking at a M135i then its the new model, why not go and have a chat with your friendly dealer and see what sort of finance deal they can do on one, their deals are pretty good at the moment with lowish APRs and keep the Z3M. The new M135i is a corker and one of the best all round BMWs to come out for a long time and it will be on my radar when the PCP is up on the Z4. I'm unsure if the 1 Series will quite have the same cache as the Z3M and will be no where near as desirable in the future which is why I would hang onto the Z3 as a future investment and keep the mileage low. If anything you can keep monthly payments on a new car fairly low these days and just hand it back after a few years.
Tim.

S54 ///MR RHD only 73 ever made, that's just a quarter of the number of 507s.Wikipedia wrote:The BMW 507 is a roadster produced by BMW from 1956 to 1959. And coincidentally:Fine Cars collector's corner wrote:(2008 Spring)Today € 650.000.- or $885.000.- will buy you a very good and restored BMW 507 Roadster Series 2.

Re: FOR SALE: 2001 Z3M Roadster S54
I don't think I was procrastinating at all mate,.. just giving an opinion from my own point of view i.e. IF I wanted an S54 I would be looking for a much lower mileage example due to the premium pricing they attract and they ARE a sure fire investment in the LONGER term if you have a low mileage one and keep it that way. As another user commented after me, with those kind of miles it's more likely to be a good usable car than an investment.Alfie wrote:The S54 ///MR RHD is indisputably one of THE rarest production cars ever to come out of the BMW stable. Not looking for an argument BTW,.. this site is all about opinion and the OP can take his balanced view of everyone's comments.

Re: FOR SALE: 2001 Z3M Roadster S54
I agree crispy! I would not want a high mileage car (80k plus) regardless of condition.
Purely because of resale at a later date.
There is still a stigma with high mileage cars I'm afraid.
IMHO.

Re: FOR SALE: 2001 Z3M Roadster S54
For every S54 that disappears, the remaining ones will increase in value and even the high mileage cars will be sought after.
Take a look at genuine classic 1965-1969 Shelby Mustang GT350 and GT500's as an example, they were produced in much higher numbers than the S54 M Roadster.

americans love mustangs !Z3m's?i dont think im gonna wait for my windfall in 35-45years ive got a few driving days to go this year and im not going to worry about milage or deprecation and stone chips but more about grip and acceleration and the soft top opening .and if i lose a couple of K if i ever change or sell it it will have been money well spent. But im glad that there are some guys that like to keep there toys in a box.Gazza wrote:For every S54 that disappears, the remaining ones will increase in value and even the high mileage cars will be sought after.

Re: FOR SALE: 2001 Z3M Roadster S54
An interesting thread as it turned out!
I saw the light and decided to keep it - I am certainly not going to pack it away and wait for it to increase in value. I want to enjoy it. As someone mentioned the highish miles won't matter to me if I keep it. Nice to know I've got a rare car and as more time passes there will be fewer and fewer out on the roads.
That all said - would always be open to someone desperate for a stock S54....
