Could you give me e price on an arm rest and a pair of clear lenses please?
Also, is it possible to just raise the front of the seat and not the back? I lack thigh support but am fairly tall so dont want the back of the seat any higher. If so, a price on the relevant seat parts too, please!

Yep..... The guy who does my plastic lenses, and hopefully will be doing the gearshift surround, ( at least initially) has managed to have a fairly severe bike accident. Ribs, shoulder and head damage. He was hospitalised for 2 weeks, and is apparently now laid up in bed at his girlfriend's home - still mending it seems. Anyhow, in the meanwhile, I am meeting a chrome plating chap on Tuesday with a sample to be test plated. Sometimes I wonder at the complexity involved in getting chrome onto plastics, and considering the developments in chemistry and nano tech, I would have thought the main stumbling blocks might have been resolved already. Seems not the case though. The major restriction on getting the metal to plastic bond is temperature. Most plastics have comparatively low melt points (40C - 90C) with the exception of just a couple like ABS which is what 99.9% of automotive components are made from.
There are new chroming techniques now such as the "spray on" system and the "hydro-film" system. Both methods are subject to some stringent preparatory requirements, which if not meticulously performed, results in the coating peeling off easily. Added to that is the varieties of plastics and their properties. It's all quiet scientific with details at atomic / molecule levels. The bottom line is, not many other materials have much interest in bonding with monomers and polymers (plastics in common language).
As I mentioned in another post, I am also in the process of producing a workbench top plastic injection machine. The design work is complete, and the structural components are currently in the works queue at the laser cutting people. These are gross metal parts which will form the frame to support the more refined parts that actually perform the injection process and the electronics heating and heat control functions that reduce plastic to a liquid - called "the melt".
Some of the framework needs further refined accurate machining after laser cutting to provide smooth hinging and sliding of components. I reckon I'm about 2 - 3 weeks from getting the completed mechanical parts and having them welded, bolted, screwed and assembled.
The electronics are "off the shelf" components which mount and fit to the framework and connect to 220 - 240 AC power. I already have an aluminium mould made into which the plastic can be injected. Ideally, I would like to use ABS as the substrate so that it can be electro-plated in the conventional manner which provides a hard metallic coating. ABS has a melt point around 150C + making it compliant with the 100C+ temperatures used in the electro-plating processes. Electro-plating is also cheaper than the newer technology applications, and still the most durable.
So to sum up....the work goes on, and although at times I reflect on my ignorance at starting on this, I am so anal when it comes to surrender that I will continue stubbornly. I may even succeed. At best I will have a marketable DIY injection machine, or an interesting metal sculpture which will have cost a packet in time and money....... Watch this space.... :rtm:

Have you considered a 3d printer? I saw some serious pieces that had been produced on one last week. Not cheap but prices dropping all the time.

Also as a possible solution, although im not dure if chrome is an option just yet, hydro graphic dipping which is hardy enough for wheels should be fine for trim. In contrast I believe dipping is relatively cheap to do.
