New stubby antenna which looks great are cheap on ebay. The base unit is serious money new and hard to come by second hand. If you look on realoem it`s on other bmw cars so that widens the search. Took me a while to get a second hand one. It came from a breaker in Wales that has Zs. I can`t remember the name though, it was a few years ago. Good luck with your search.
It`s on these models too http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/partxre ... series=E36

UPDATE:- thanks for all your help and input, especially Mr Scalex (as usual!)
I have solved the audio problem by bypassing the amp in the footwell speaker, and all working fine now.
What I don't understand is that all was fine until last summer - the amp can't have been the problem as Mr Scalex very kindly sent me another footwell speaker complete and that wouldn't work either, the head unit was the one fitted when I bought it 18 years ago so there has been no change to the cable runs etc. (think I just answered my own question there!)
Anyway now time for an upgrade to DAB and see what pitfalls that brings along!!!!!!
