For rear 18 inch wheels AC Schnitzer fitment will give you a good idea as the type II race where made in specific fitment for the Z3m ie 9.5 wide ET 9 from memory (check my journal)

Fronts are the same as any Z3 which in general terms are e36 fitment. Don't go wider that 8 or 8.5 on the fronts though unless your planning to play with camber etc..... Rears you can get away with much wider (11+) but choices are usually up to 10.

Deep dish is a combination of width (9.5+), Offset (the lower the better to get arch line without using spacers) and style of the wheel itself.

As a rule of thumb you need a mixed set with 3 series fitment up front and 5 series fitment at rear. But if you want to maximise dish you really need a lower offset than most 5 series offer ;-)

Are you saying the car was a narrow body ?

If the answer is yes then Z3M wheels will fit your car. Front et is 41 standard and the rear et 8.

I have fitted 8.5 x 18 et 41 on the front, rears can be as jontt suggests.

So would I be correct then that any deep dish rear up to 10inch with an offset of 8 would fit within the rear arches?
Yes but still check, ACS have a thicker hub, other manufacturers could be the same.

Measure from your hub mounting face to the wheelarch lip and then do the calcs.
