Exhaust question

Post by Gareth 161 »

I have a 2000 3.0 z3 but as it was one of the first of these built, it still seems to have retained the exhaust system in general from the old 2.8 z3 although slightly different as no joint in whole length of exhaust.
I have cut the pipe just to the rear of the hanger by the axle and fitted a cheap small box but it’s far too loud!!
Looking to put something a bit quieter on as off to Spain shortly and ears might suffer!
Has anyone tried a Fox rear box made in Germany as reasonable price. Was looking at the Remus but apparently now only made for the 1.9.
Also has anyone used the “boot bag” which straps to the boot as regretfully I sold my boot rack and case with my old 2.8 which was a big mistake
Thanks

Can't answer on the exhaust.
However, I have used a Boot-Bag on the rear rack of my Morgan. It is better suited to sitting on a boot lid though.
A friend who now owns a Z3 (and a former Morgan owner) uses a Boot Bag when they go away (both car and bag he acquired after seeing my previous Z3 8 years ago).
I will use my Boot-Bag on the Z3 if I go away for any period.

Thanks for the info and I think a boot bag on the boot lid would be the way to go as very unlikely to ever find the boot rack and case again

Aftermarket luggage racks are still available. Just one example:

I like the Boot-Bag though as it is waterproof (at least mine is for the present!).

Yes they look interesting but expensive time you buy a case as well. Should never have sold my old rack with the proper z3 case.
Definitely think bag is best option as looks fairly simple idea. Looking at the boot bag website there seems to be 2 different lengths of straps available. Any idea which ones you need for the z3?

Hi Gareth,
I bought the longer ones (IIRC) as I planned to use the bag on other cars as well as the Morgan. The Boot-Bag team are very helpful and friendly so a quick email or phone call will give you the answer. :)
