I've got a 2.8 and had a quote last week for £189 fully comp. My breakdown cover is via: http://www.2getherinsurance.com - it gives me 60 days abroad per 12 months and that was £68

Re: Insurance Providers
I've got a 2.8 and pay £450 on a classic policy with Lockton (5000 miles restricted). Sounds expensive compared to John's but I'm 25 so compared to the £1000+ quotes I was getting it's a relative bargain! The policy also isn't affected by no claims/doesn't require it which is a plus since my no claims is tied up on the policy for the daily driver.

I've just had a quote from RH at £327, for a 97 2.8 and me age 40. Classicinsurance were £365 and Adrian Flux £433.
There were a lot at around £650 to 750 and ther rest at £1300 ish!
RH and Classic were both good for modifications with no extra charge for an induction kit.

Re: Insurance Providers
The cheapest quote I could get with Aviva was £704!!!
Even if I told them I had 5 years+ NCB it was still £640. I can't understand how someone else can get such a different quote.
I am 40 with no convictions, no claims and a reasonable postcode (so I am told by other insurers). The car is on the drive rather than garaged at night, that is the only thing I can see. The Aviva website doesn't ask many questions, they don't want to know about medical conditions or job titles as long as you are not one of their high risk jobs. My wife is on the policy and if I take her off it goes up!
I will have to stick with RH I think.

Ok, I have worked it out.
I have had a play with the online quote machine and I just need to get older quicker to get cheaper insurance!!
If I was 50 it would be £475, and at 60 down to £350 (I'm afraid it goes up again at 70!).

Re: Insurance Providers
My policy is up soon so it's interesting to see the variation in quotes, even though I know it's a very subjective ...subject.
At 47 with umpteen years NCB, living in a "low risk" area (according to insurance brokers) and keeping my Z3 3.0 in a garage, I'm surprised I can't seem to get anything below my renewal quote of just over £450 through Swiftcover.com
I have one SP30 from 3 years ago which seems to add a bit onto some quotes (others say they're not bothered), but my renewal jumped from about £230 to £440 last year and has remained around that. The policy is for just 3K annual mileage, the car's not used for commuting/business and adjusting the voluntary XS seemed to make little difference. After checking around (comparison websites and phoning around), the closest I could find was over £100 more.
So, despite their quote not sounding very competitive, I suppose I have to give Swiftcover.com the vote simply for being about a £100 cheaper than anyone else - well, for me at least!

Z3 is with Adrian Flux - points, claims, mods etc. about £500 for fully comp., 13,000m, protected no claims etc. , previously with direct line, they didn't like the mods.
Just phoned this lot...... for my Saxo track prepped car.
Competition Car Insurance 0844 8921966
REIS 0115 985 0165

Huge difference in price - 3rd party 1000m Competition Car Insurance and REIS were by far the best. REIS seemed particularly helpful as they were interested in what I needed, indeed they even offered 3 months insurance to cover the track day season.

Re: Insurance Providers
I've just had my renewal through from Hastings who insured me last year, and it was £595 (paying monthly so they add a bit on) So I thought, have a look around on t'interweb as usual to see if it's any cheaper elsewhere.
Did a quote on Moneysupermarket and who should come up as cheapest but Hastings, £150 cheaper than the renewal
So I rang them up and told them, and the nice lady on the other end says that they can't beat that price
I've ended up cancelling the renewal with Hastings and re-insuring with the cheaper company....Hastings!
They really do make it up as they go along don't they?

Re: Insurance Providers
Just had a quote from RH insurance - £280. About £60 less than I am currently paying.
Re: Insurance Providers
To bring you all up to date regarding insurance. Moneysupermarket.com gave me that quote with Zurich at £189. When I followed it up by clicking on the Zurich link I then found out that these low quotes are cover with few of the things you would actually need. Quite often legal cover, courtesy car etc are left off some by the time they're added in it's not so cheap after all. I caught on quick, especially after talking to my current insurer Swiftcover.com - the girl there explained how these comparison sites work. Anyway, I said that the Zurich cover included courtesy car cover for 14 days and was cheaper than their quote. Well, after a bit of chat courtesy car cover was added in and the quoted premium of £239 fully comp dropped to £217 - so I was pleased with that and said 'yes' to another 12 months with them.John1950 wrote:Vic-Z3 wrote:Hi as it is just about due, thought I would enquire about Insuring the Z3.

Car Insurance is a total minefield. It really depends on the particular company's appetite for your set of risks at the point in time you are getting the quote.
On the comparison sites fully comp quotes ranged from just over £200 to well over £1k for my wife and I on 5k miles on our recently acquired 52 plate 3litre kept on our drive in a reasonably ok postcode. We are both over 45 so age helps! Ended up on a short policy with Admiral as we have an existing multicar with them that expires in 6 weeks so I'll be going through it all again soon but a classic policy is defo worth considering.

Re: Insurance Providers
I was looking forward to a even lower premium this year from Admiral of 262.88 but I've just been screwed over by my current provider Elephant.
Last year someone vandilised my bonnet. I went to the insurance to make a claim but had a change of heart and decided it was not in my best interest to make a claim and paid for the damage myself. Also later last year while reversing out from a shop a car sped past clipping my rear bumper which me my insurance advised not to make a claim as I would be held at fault for reversing out into a road and the 3rd party on a gentlemans agreement just left it not making any claims but the 3rd party some months later made a claim against me which my insurer did not tell me about untill I just come to renew. I have 13 year protected no claims but the insurer is classing both as incident bumping my insurance from 262 to nearly 500 quid I'm so fuming at the moment it's just a money racketeering.
Any recommendations for decent insurers.

That's really annoying. Surely they should have written to you- you must have a right to input into the claim. Might be worth trying one of the classic car specialists if you only do small miles like under 5k or 3k.
Re: Insurance Providers
The best thing is that Elephant said I could write the claim off if I paid the 150 pounds they paid out which I will clarify with them tomorrow as I'll be making a complaint to the ombudsman if that's the case and in view of penilising me for not going ahead with them making any repairs.

Re: Insurance Providers
I had a lengthy chat with a manager at Elephant to explain why my premium is going up so much. Even though I made a non claim it is classed as an "incident" and if I paid out the £150 quid on the other claim it would be classed as a none claim incident as well but my premium would stop at the same £484 but I would keep 14 years no claims bonus instead of 13 years no claims. He also said that not all insurers will hold against you none claim incidents but a lot groups will.

I have today added my Zed to Aviva Multi Policy for £48.75.This is for 140 days cover until the multi policy renewal date.
This equates to around £130/year for comprehensive cover for two named drivers up to 6k miles and guaranteed NCD.

Re: Insurance Providers
If changing your provider I've always found it worthwhile going through a cashback website eg. http://www.topcashback.co.uk as most of the main insurers offer a reasonable deal eg. I'll get £25 back on my Sheila's Wheels policy which is £350 (1.9 1998 28yo 5yrs no claims and doing upto 10000miles inc business) but there is £60 cashback just now from Aviva.
All you do is register with the site (free for topcashback and there are others eg. Quidco) and use it as a gateway to any sites that you are purchasing online from (inc insurance, phone contracts, holidays, ebay, energy suppliers, halfords etc). It can take a few weeks for the £s to be available but then you can transer it to your bank account. Have been using it for a year or so with no problems and saved nearly £200.
You also get a £10 "bonus" if you refer a friend so if this is a revelation to anyone and you're gonna save a buck then http://www.topcashback.co.uk/ref/10202938024 to say thanks lol

So on my renewal- 4 cars in the family on a multicar with Admiral. Renewal was not too bad considering the flexibility we wanted. Got others' quotes some of which were lower premiums but higher excesses. Phoned Admiral who trimmed it a bit, then I got a quote off Admiral's website as new business for all 4 and saved in the region of 25% from the renewal offer and they honoured it and with lower excesses- happy all round. So it pays to shop around and may benefit revisiting your existing insurer as new business.
