I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

If you do, make sure it's a decent length! In my last house the pit was deep enough but too short so you had access only to the first foot or so of the underside unless you pulled the car over you after you got down the hole. Great for storing spare wheels etc., though.

Have you had ground tests done to determine which foundations are required ?

"Honey I shrunk the earthworks machine".... :D

Seriously a pit is a huge plus...and if you line it with some decent bricks and a shelf either side running the length for tools, tea etc...it's an even bigger plus...and have two 1/2 length covers to close it over when not in use...well that's the best...Nice size building you're erecting... :D

Footings were all dug Thursday, inspected yesterday and concrete poured.
The garage is now taking shape and is a good size.
Bricklayers start Monday.

The "pit doesn't have to be deep enough to stand in...just deep enough to lie down in and negate jacking every time you need to work under the car...a pit aprox 18" - 24" deep will do it comfortably.

Nor have I, and I do the odd extension, you say up to DPC
they look like a Celcon type block, should be brick on at least concrete blocks?
Its hard to tell by a picture
Did the DS make you go 1 metre for the footings?
It will be a lovely size, you can always put a pit in later, a bit harder to do though

They are trench blocks and then 3 normal bricks to DPC with a normal block inside. We went down a meter for the footings.

Not sure to be fair left with builder, slab is going to be reinforced with steel though.

yeah me neither.... I want to lay a slab for a 4m x 6m and some say I need a 6" slab, some 4" and some say 3" is ok if reinforced?
Its a wooden garage, so all I am really concerned with is the car weight and point loading for jacking up..

least I would go for is a 4" though, 'cos 3" seems far too thin for my required length and width

Go with a 6" slab and a polished finish, that will stop any dust from the concrete, then paint the floor.

I lay a minimum 150 mm of concrete and reinforced on garage bases "Minimum"
The polish concrete finish is great, you can wheel spin out of the garage lol
Not good when wet, a bit slippery?

I cant wait to see it up

This is cool.

I'm looking to move over the next year and my basic requirements are treble garage (or room to build one), 2 bedroom, kitchen and toilet. As you can imagine SWMBO is not impressed

The main thing for me with a double garage is to have a proper double auto door and not two single door with a column in the middle. It makes use of the garage soooo much easier.

Re the pit you guys have it all wrong, get a proper car lift installed, it can be as cheap as building the pit so long as you have the headroom and you can store an extra car under

Looks like we will have 6 inches on top of the crushed concrete.

Jontt, I thought the same on the garage door. I have managed to get one 5.5m wide so I hope the opening is big enough[SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES].

We are putting attic trusses on as we will have an office with toilet above.

Looks very good though...and that roof loft will prove extremely useful space if you build a decent floor up there... spares, extra sets of wheels, hardtop etc etc...or just some private "man space"...

It's roughly 6m high, roof being inspected tomorrow, but is as per plan. Have had a few comments from the neighbours tho. The upstairs is initially an office (man cave)but we have put a soil pipe and water so will put a shower room in once we have a completion statement.
