Windscreen mounted! - Hope they come in "brushed alluminium"!

Seriously though - does not sound good! Is it expected it will replace road tax or supplement it? Now let me guess!

A much better way to gather the funds would be to scrap the road fund licence and put the money on fuel.

Gas guzzlers and high mileage would be hit hard, and so they should be.

There would be no need for "Big Brother" technology that is bound to be flouted by those with the resources (jammers, etc. are bound to become available). You can't avoid buying fuel.

The tax would have to be paid by all, including all those Eastern European trucks that fill the A14. There should be a limit of say 200 litres of fuel allowed to be imported into the country in your fuel tank. Average truck should be able to get about 60 miles with that.

Rant over.

Why ????????????????

Post by ZZZEMMCO »

94% of ALL journeys in UK are by Road--- ---Rail-Air-Walk the rest % Unless you are within 5 miles of a City centre And on the route--youre stuffed without YOUR own wheels .

Knowing this--ALL Govt,s punish the hand,s that feed their Meglomanic obsession,to prove how clever and forward looking they are. They ARE a disaster, in everything they touch--Except--Extraction of as much £££££ as is possible, to finance their Dreams--while WE have the Nightmares.

For anyone who has tried to be a good citizen, and used the public transport systems to get even the shortest distances, 30-50 miles--you know what a waste of time and £££ it is.WE --being bloodsucked by these parasites endure hours as prisoners, on the the M/ways while they have the benifit of our financed pads in town, not for them 15hrs each day.

Now--its the Big Brother Toll tax, on the tax +++++.Can anyone advise WHY ???????????????????? the Law abiding Brits are Punished on a daily basis       , while other countries seem to make their people happy and content (YES--Mostly).

I don't want to add insult to injury, but I took my 635 for a fairly spirited thrash this week, and still got 30MPG. :D

Collect the money from fuel tax

Post by Robin »

If the government wish to ensure payment for road use is proportional to how much one uses the roads then why don't they simply scrap the road fund licence & collect that tax by adding it to fuel tax.
After all, the more one uses the roads the more fuel one has to buy so the more fuel tax one has to pay.

That way we wouldn't have to pay for electronic tags & all the other associated equipment for clocking which roads we drive on.

Or perhaps they could try spending more of the money they already collect from us from fuel & road tax on our roads instead of wars in Iraq or hand outs to Eurocrats for the Spanish to build motorways where they aren't even needed

Or are these solutions just too simple for our beloved friends in government to comprehend :?

I totally agree Robin.
Let the driver choose how much to use his (her) car and therefore how much TAX (s)he pays.
Simple, cheap, easy, effective and fair.

Trouble is, that idea was poo pooed some time ago because the lorry companies said that it would add too much to transport costs which would then be passed on to the consumer......ie: inflation!

Gov't looks bad if inflation targets fail.

And we all know that image means EVERYTHING to our beloved leaders...

SLIME INCorporated--

Post by ZZZEMMCO »

Robin and Alfie--You are both right--BUT--its been suggested for over 35 Years!!!!!!!!!!!! Slime say, its TOO complicated--Like All the petrol Companies TAX collections could not collect and PAY the Tax over to the Slime??MORE to it than that.-- YOU and I know, MONEY-CASH-is THE most Important Single item to Slime, Whatever the crime- stealing Money IS the crime of ALL crimes.Nothing is punished as much as a Money crime.

With the Old named "ROAD FUND LICENCE" (THE slime cringe at that title) their Billions of ££££ would NOT go to THEM, but to the Petrol Co,s and they would have to WAIT for the £££(NOT trusting said Petrol co,s) to then Pay the Slime.NO other reason--as you ALL know-Anything which is COMMON SENSE--Will Never be included in ANY parties Manifesto.
