7 Feb 09: Magical Mystery Tour!

Post by spokey »

The details are close to finalising now. I have a fantastic photo opportunity (although it's a bit of a gamble how well it's going to turn out), a fantastic pub for lunch and, as a bit of a bonus, a post-cruise partay!

The starting point for this cruise will be the Extra Services at Willington, which is at the junction of the A38 and the A50. If you want to stay over the night before, there is an Etap hotel at the starting point. There is a Starbucks, Le Petit Four and Shell at the start, so both cars and people should be well "vittled"! :D If you fancy a slightly more posh hotel, there is a Ramada that is also very close to the starting point.

The cruise will probably be a little slower than most people expect from a Spokey cruise, but a lot of the route is going to be along a heavily speed-trapped 50MPH stretch.

Before lunch, we will be stopping off at the photo opportunity. In order to grab the best spots for the photos, we will have to be there at 11:00 sharp, so the cruise will need to leave at 09:30 sharp.

Lunch is a stone's throw from the photo opportunity and I will try to arrange that we get a room to ourselves. I've already tried the lunch venue and it was superb!

After lunch, there will be a bimble around a bit of Staffordshire and we will finish up where the cruise started. If people need to peel off earlier, we will be crossing the M6, just let me know if you need to do this.

Finally, if you haven't had enough fun, there will be a social evening at a local eaterie. Please vote for your venue option here.

Please ensure that you have some cash with you for this event!

4th of Jan? I can't arrange it that quickly. There's a venue I need to get approval from for the photos, I reckon the earliest I could do it is 31 January, but maybe I can postpone it to 7 Feb so that Tricky will be back. Would be nice to have a couple of Z1's in this photo.

I still have to confirm with the venue for the photo (fingers crossed it's all OK!) but I'd really like to drum up some support for this one. It will be a truly amazing photo opportunity and a great day out.

Come on, where's the regulars? :D

Well we are on hols for the original date so didn't look at this anymore. Now that the date has changed and we will be back we can give it another thought ............................................................................ the Zed is tucked away for winter so I didn't think it right not to bring it but we are free and will be attending in his newest pride and joy the 5 :)

We're interested mate, with the change of date, but a return trip to Derbyshire from the Smoke with a full day's 'Spokey driving' in the middle is a bit mad even for the most hardened croozer.....

And I know you'll slag me off if I don't provide a solution, so....

How about finding a hotel somewhere near the finish point and making the Saturday night a bit of a social? That might be the trigger for a multitude of Zeds to sign up.... Any comments?

I'm happy to help out with the arrangements if you need it. 8-)

Cheers.

Suggested option number one:

1. Book into the hotel at the starting point for the cruise (I don't know what chain it is, but will find out.)
2. Arrange a mass taxi from there to the Bulls Head pub.
3. Frivolity and fun.
4. Mass taxi back to hotel.

Sound like a plan?

Yep, pretty much!

Are you sure it's a Premier Inn at the Derby With Burton services? Because I did a search on the Premier Inn website and they don't seem to have a hotel there. :?

Spokey...

Please move us up the rankings to 'confirmed'. :D

It's gotta be the pub for the evening bash coz the winery looks far too up-market for the likes of us!

What are folks doing about the hotel options?

I prefer Premier Inn, there is one at DE22 3HN which is about 2 miles from the start and about 5 miles from the Bulls Head so cab fare shouldn't be too bad.

I will probably arrive on the Friday night :D

Hi Spokey,

Please can I confirm this one. I'll be there for the cruise, lunch and the soiree. :D

I have managed to twist Rob T's arm: We'll meet up on Saturday, combine forces and share the driving in Sharky.

Looks great! :D
