The answer may be delightfully simple, but why Z4M Coupe and Z4M Roadster and not M4 Coupe and M4 Roadster?
It's clear why the Z3 M Coupe & Roadster didn't get called M3, and frankly I think M Coupe and M Roadster is far cooler, but that problem doesn't exist with the Z4.
I know some time ago, in the tabloidy end of the motoring press, there was speculation that the Coupe/Cabriolet variants of the 3 Series might be tagged as 4 Series, but I'm fairly certain it was speculation of the wildest variety, and in any case was put to bed long before the Z4Ms were even in production.
Any ideas? Is there an official reason? Should I worry about something else???
Silly Question #45987
I think because the Z4M is designated as such.
The M(Z3) Roadster/Coupe was always MR or MC
The M(Z3) Roadster/Coupe was always MR or MC

I believe that the Z series was developed by an internal department of BMW, setup to research ideas for the future. This group evolved into BMW Technik GmbH. The Z in the name of our roadsters and coupes comes from the use of the German word "Zunkuft", or in english, "Future", for the cars developed within this subsidiary.

Heh. You know what Rob, despite owning a Z4M Roadster I'm still jealous of M Coupe owners...I'm always on the verge of pleading with the accountant (Mrs D) to let me get one (but it would have to be in addition to the Z4, not instead of).RobBruce wrote:Sometimes, the answer is in the question........

Yes, you are almost certainly right. I must find some work to do.TrickyZ1 wrote:Er, to be honest, yes
I suppose by using Z4M, BMW at least reserve the capability of introducing a 4 Series, distinct from the Z range, sometime down the road, and follow it up with an M4.
