Why me ?

Post by smc2402 »

Morning all

I got my Z3 back on Thursday night, new door on, excellent colour match, handles all work, central locking etc, window goes a little high, but I'm on that ! So I decide to take it into Colchester to my volunteer job, just for a change, the little Fiat 500 being abandoned. And just outside the VW garage, a mum in her "people carrier" decides to stop on my back bumper, not fast, but with a resounding thud .... GRRRRRRRRRRR. Fortunately she was apologetic, we swapped numbers, and her husband rang me half an hour later, and said "Hello, my stupid wife ran into your car earlier" which made me chuckle. They want me to get a quote to have it repaired as the excess on their policy is £ 350 !! The bumper has three new scuffs, and isn't on straight now .... what a complete barstool of an evening !

Dare I say women drivers ?

It's easily done I suppose. Took it too a paint place today, and the guy pointed out that the rear light cluster is also cracked, which I hadn't noticed ....

Plus possibly (probably?) other, as yet, hidden damage so personally I'd steer well clear of the other party paying. Their excess is not relevant to any payment by their insurers for the repairs to your car - it would only be payable if they claim for the damage to their car. This issue crops up a lot on other forums and the usual advice is:

1. Contact the other party's insurers to establish the claim.
2. Phone your insurers and give them the details "for information only".
3. Decide where you want it repaired.
4. Inform the other party's insurers that you require a courtesy car.
5. Get it repaired.

Generally the other party's insurers want to get things done quickly to limit their costs. We did it this way some years ago when a range rover decided to reverse into our Z3, chose a specialist BMW / Merc / Audi repairer and the Z3 was collected and a courtesy car dropped off within 2 days.

I've taken your advice Zed, the quote to just paint the bumper was £ 400 and the cracked lense would be XYZ more if they could get one. I relayed this news, and she has decided to go through her insurance. I'm with RH and they have been great, already had the claim form e-mailed to me, and the garage WNS, are going to contact me in the next 48 hours, so hopefully will all be done soon. I'm not having the courtesy car, as my Z3 is a 2nd car anyway, I can't see the point of it, I know I'm not paying, she is, but this is why insurance is so expensive. The only riling part is, why do I have to pay my excess of £ 150 when it's not my fault .... never got that with car insurance, then I have to claim it back from her .... Took me nearly 14 months to get my excess back from an accident I had years ago, and that was with a County Court threat ... RANT RANT

I had this situation a while back, I did actually get a call from the 3rd party insurers offering to send me a cheque in the end, so a result.
It saved them paperwork and as their client admitted liability they knew I'd only claim it back anyhow.

I greatly admire you for not joining the scam of a loan car, the car can work out more expensive than the repair itself!! and will add up to the total repair costs- which you will be asked for in the future!
That and I think we appreciated that we all actually pay towards the loan car in our own insurance costs..

Like you mine is a second car, so was not needed- although the pressure I was put under to have one :shake:

Getting it throught to the girl on the 'phone that I didn't want a car was almost epic .... In the end she offered to have one delivered "just in case you change your mind". At this point I told her I had my own everyday car, a motorbike and access to five other cars should I need it, not counting Company Cars, so it was a waste of money to bring one. She then stated that "we don't normally do repairs without a courtesy car, it's quite odd" and I just replied "This is why insurance is so expensive". My friend Cath had a loan car for almost eight weeks whilst they repaired her Vauxhall Tigra ( vile car ) and I think the loan car came to almost twice the cost of the repair .....

Totally with you on this. 6 months ago runaround got reversed into whilst parked up by guy on drive house opposite mums. Got it repaired, had to pay my excess but got it back in 2 weeks. Refused to have Enterprise car on principle and really annoyed me kept trying to push high end car.

4 weeks ago runaround got hit on car park but day after I tracked down the offending car and left a note for owner (lots of season ticket holders so not too difficult). Guy wanted to avoid insurance, I refused, but as we are both with LV it's not touching my policy at all and they have just offered me a cash settlement based on a % of the repair garage estimate, never come across that before. Prob going to accept and take to my preferred garage as offer will easily cover repair. Again kept pushing Enterprise car, again refused. But...... How do you stop the text messages about PI claims and more to the point how does that work when on both occasions I wasn't in the car !!!

With you on this one snoops. I was hit by an overtaking van & trailer 18 months ago (not in Zed thank God). Guy drove off but I got his number. Police involved but not really interested. Had to go through my insurance so lost some NCD and excess. Since then I have been pestered relentlessly by text and 'phone by numerous companies re PI claim. I tell them I wasn't injured and don't want to claim so they pass it onto someone else. In the last few weeks it has got so bad that I get at least one call a day and sometimes two. They even qoute an amount and say the other guy's insurance co. has set aside this sum especially for my claim. Last week the caller was really rude and told me I was an idiot to refuse! My wife has taken to answering the 'phone and telling them I am getting stressed and suicidal due to the pestering but still they continue. I suppose the only thing to do is change my number.
Sorry about that - rant over :head:

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..
