Your car's looking really nice, can't fault the work done or your future plans. Many owners following the black theme would probably change the front bonnet/kidney grills to the 100% black ones - but it's personal choice at the end of the day. The wind deflector looks great, it will be interesting to see if you get enough interest for a batch or whether the potential cost causes owners to revert to the plain OE net ones which can usually be bought 2nd hand for up to £100.

Looking good - not sure on the black side vents personally but that's just down to personal taste :)

Now if it was just a bit lower...

No offence taken Boysie - each to their own!

If it needs clarifying, as I haven't actually said... The wheels are actually anthracite; because of the sun in the photos, they appear a lot darker than they are in reality.

Funny you should mention Spurs Fan's wheels. I really liked the idea of white wheels previously, but was slightly put off by the feedback of others on here, and didn't think it would suit the MV2's. Have a look at earlier in the thread.

Oh and just a note for the journal: the plan was to get 'Hyper Black' alloys but unfortunately my alloys were too pitted, and the fine coat of silver used would've only accentuated the damaged, so anthracite was the one to go for.

Since the wheels have been completed, that's another thing I want doing. How much bottoming out occurs with a 30mm drop?

It's a beautiful car Boysie, all credit to Spurs Fan. I've seen it many times on the forum, and love the white, but I think it really only suits alloys with thicker spokes. My MV2's would just get so dirty so quickly!

I'm really happy with the anthracite, and I haven't seen any other Z's with the same combination, so it makes mine unique to me, which is what it is all about really...

I would have thought there would be no bottoming out at all with a 30mm drop - I dropped the rear about 100mm by accident when I first fitted my adjustable coilovers (it settled a lot lower than at it sat at after they were fit) - going over speed bumps was pretty much impossible lol. It's at about a 50-60mm drop now I think and doesn't bottom out at all unless you drive over really big speed bumps too quick.

Perfect! Thanks for the info. It's definitely up there on my list of things to do now!

The car is off the road until Wednesday now, as the kind chap who resprayed Scarlett is refurbishing her wing mirror mounts, free of charge, with the left over paint from my repair. My faith in humanity has been somewhat restored!

So, I got hold of some angel eye projectors from Andy AKA Spurs fan last week, and got them fully fitted today -

Garage Lights off (with a little help from photoshop):

(...and soon to be part of my new sig - apologies as I believe somebody else on the forum has something similar)

I'm amazed at how the projectors really do give a more agressive and modern look to the front of the car. Love it!!

Did a bit (a lot) of sanding down today, as I had the valve cover off to replace the gasket. My fingers hurt!

Looks good - I like the polished aluminium look - looks proper old school quality. I used wire wool and Autosol metal polish on my M44 rocker cover and it came up a treat.

As you can see, the sides are pitted pretty badly, so I didn't want to go for a mirror like finish on the parts that were salvageable. Its more of a brushed aluminium look on top now, which I think is pretty nice.

..... the "pitting" con be vastly eradicated by taking the cover to someone that does aluminium "bead blasting". They use either small glass or plastic beads to clean up the surface. Dimensionally nothing significant is lost (less than .01mm). The finish is excellent, and you then have a choice of anodising or powder coating. With the pitting, I would suggest matt silver powdwer coating, since the coating is considerably thicker than anodising, and will fill some of the smaller pits.

You don't have to if you are sensible with your tightening. Don't be over-zealous or you will most definitely de-thread the aluminium!

They aren't extremely bright in daylight, but they are visible. Although I have to say I don't use them during they day... No need to!

if you are looking to have angel eyes, then The Angels in these headlights aren't visible until twilight unfortunately but the clean cut lines of the lights makes the car much more modern. If you want bright Angels you need to add them to your normal headlights

Busy week, this one!

On Thursday, very much a spur of the moment visit, Scarlett went into the local Powerflow dealer and got some new pipes, which sound awesome. Her OEM exhaust was shot and something needed doing quickly. The garage (Grove Garage, Brighton) did an amazing job in a very short time, fair play to them.

Image

The very next day, Scarlett and I took a road trip via the Eurotunnel to Beverwijk, Holland to collect her new Wiesmann Hardtop!!! I'm a very tired but happy bunny right now as I've just got home.

Hi Del,

I could be wrong but I believe the history is that Wiesmann made their hardtop for the Z3 before BMW considered one.

As far as looks go:
- It has a slightly more angular design
- A larger rear window, which makes a hell of a difference when driving
- (In my opinion) a nicer shaped interior lining, that also increases rear view vision as it doesn't have such an unnecessarily large bump/shelf for the soft top to sit up.
- It also doesn't have the rubber strips on top, and instead has two channels presumably for rain water to travel down when driving.

I'll put up a comparison pic shortly.

Haha that's brilliant. Having a nephew myself, I was fully aware that it might look something like Lightning.

I might add that it only resembles Lightning McQueen when he gets a full refurb, wheels up, once he's finally made friends with all the other cars at Radiator Springs!

...Yes I like the movie just as much as my nephew!

Looked on eBay for new wheels, contacted seller, drove 5 miles and swapped my MV2s for these 16" BMW Style 42s, plus a bit of cash my pocket!

Now the white wall inserts are on order, and I have some spare change in my pocket to put towards a refurb :)

Thanks Mugs, here's a better daylight pictures of the new (to me) alloys fitted:

They definitely require a refurb, in hyper silver (hopefully they aren't too corroded for this) and the white wall tyre paint should be with me before the week is out, ready for the New Forest Run this coming weekend.

So happy with what I've achieved today...

Since I was a kid (yes, even before Pixar's 'Cars') I have always wanted a car with white-wall tyres, and now it has happened:

Tomorrow the alloys will be temporarily refurbed with some wet and dry and a can of plastidip :)
