South Lakes hotel required

I'm taking the good lady away for a couple of days between Christmas and N Year and I'm looking for recommendations for a decent hotel or B&B in the South Lakes area.
Ideally a nice cosy place with log fire, good food etc would be ideal

Obviously somehwere near a few good driving roads would be ideal so I can gie the Zed a bit of a run round.

Have you considered the Tower Bank Arms in Sawrey just over the other side of the Lake to Bownes and much quiter! It is right in the middle of Beatrix Potter country so plenty of Japanese tourists during the day but a place with real history and featured in some of her books.
It maybe a bit far north, but you do get to take the Zed on the little ferry over the lake.
