Z1 tour 2019

Post by felix »

Hello all,

I'm helping Jamal with gauging the level of interest in some sort of Z1 tour in 2019. Some of you will have seen an email from him but as there were few responses I thought it was worth putting it out here onto the forum to see where we should go with this.

We have kicked around 3 ideas:

1.A UK based tour
2. A UK based tour with some activities
3. A weekend champagne run to france
4. One of the above but in 2020.

The UK based variants would start somewhere central-ish either on the Friday evening or the Saturday morning with a drive of perhaps 100-150 miles, a group hotel booking and an evening meal together. On the Sunday we would have a shorter drive planned with the tour breaking up at perhaps 14:00 allowing people to head home. The activity variant would substitute some activities similar to last year's tour in lieu of some of the driving.

The champagne run would follow the concept of the BMW Club's trip - drive to the Champagne region on Friday afternoon, 2 nights in the Champagne region, a drive through the Champagne region on the Saturday and a visit to a Champagne producer, dinner together on the Saturday evening and then a perhaps a short drive on the Sunday morning before heading back to the UK.

Known conflicts are the Silverstone Classic in July and the National Festival in August.

Please reply with your prefered first and second choice as well as any dates that you can not make and we'll collate all the responses and go from there. I realise we're already into mid-March so have left it a bit late. Please try to respond within the next week.

Hi Felix,

We reached the conclusion some while ago that it was too late, time wise, to organise a successful tour this year.

Our first and second choices from your list would therefore be options 4 and 1.

We are not particularly interested in an Epernay tour, having made several trips to the region in the past.
We were no enamoured with the 2018 tour "activities" but this would not preclude us from joining a tour with "activities". For us it is the company, socialising and an interesting route/drive that we enjoy most. We regard good organisation as an important part of any event.

Regarding the length of tour, several events we do with other clubs offer something extra on Sunday for those who like to add another night, make a long weekend of it, and head home on a Monday.

Hope to catch up with some of you at Silverstone on the Saturday.

Hi Felix

Great idea trying to get this tour kick started although I fear we may have left it too late to be able to book something with regard to overnight stays.

I am not keen on a champagne run to France and almost certainly not enough time to book something like this for 2019 at this late juncture.

My preference would be:

1) UK based tour (even if it's just a blast around the Cotswolds like we have done in the past with overnight accommodation)
2) UK based tour with some activities

Jamal had previously suggested the month of June as the likely month. You are asking what dates people can't make.

We cannot make the weekends of 15/16th and 21/22 June. If we are looking outside of June as you have mentioned Silverstone weekend and the National Festival at Gaydon are out but the rest of July is ok for us as is August apart from bank holiday weekend 24/25 August. September has us fairly busy with the diary pretty full.

So are we still looking at June as the likely month?

Hi Felix,

Summer 2019 will be difficult for me as I am scheduled to have my hip replaced, unless of course my wife drives the Z1.

On second thoughts, 2020 would be preferable.

A Cotswold mini meet and lunch may be a possibility, potentially at the Classic Motor Hub near Bibury as suggested recently by ChrisS given their recent interest in and sale of Z1's

A 2020 post Brexit (subject to a 2nd referendum) trip to the Spa Classic with continental Z1's maybe?

Hi Felix,

Well done for chasing this. Where do all the weekends go?

It would be option 4 and 2 for us, the diary is looking busy with one thing or another.

We will be at Silverstone Classic on the Saturday .

I haven't looked at zroadster for some weeks, and hadn't picked up the recent correspondence.
How about meeting on the weekend of 31/8 - 1/9? We could finish up on Sunday morning at this: https://classicmotorhub.com/shop/german ... -1st-2019/
I've already mentioned this to BMWCC Thames and Central but I'm unsure what follow-up is intended.
Being later in the season, this date still gives us time to organise.
There's a good mix of fast roads and twisty lanes in the area and I'd be happy to enquire about accommodation in W Oxon for the Saturday night.

The 1st Sept Cotswold event is already in my diary as a maybe but could easily form the basis for a weekend or day trip event.
