Hi folks.
Three questions.
1. If I want to replace the speakers in the dash, how can I access them for replacement?
2. What size are the speakers in the (1) dash, and (2) doors?
3. What ohm ratings are the speakers for the VIN<200 "Z1 Audio" radio/amp?
Thanks.
Question about the speakers
Re: Question about the speakers
The footwell speakers are 5" 4-ohm, dash maybe 2" (?), detailed here: http://www.z1-highend.de/

Re: Question about the speakers
Just to follow up.. looks like the footwell speakers are 5.25". I just happened to have a pair of BOSS 4ohm 5.25" coaxial marine speakers on the shelf. They were a perfect fit -- screwed right into the existing mounting holes (but needed longer screws). I left the super crappy 2" tweeters in the dash disconnected.
But they're not much better -- I think the limiting factor in the "Z1 Audio System" is the amplifier. Even with new good speakers, it sounds fairly bad at higher volumes.
As much as I hate to consider it, I'm considering pulling out the Z1 Audio head unit and amp and replacing it with the new Blaupunkt Frankfurt RCM 82 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09C1RMR1Y/) and a nice amp and new speakers/subwoofer in the rear.
With the top down, I really want great tunes.

Re: Question about the speakers
Interesting,...
I have found that the OEM set up provides sufficient sound strength even with the top down at motorway speeds (~100kmh),.... Wondering if your head unit is the problem?
I have a modern unit in it (Pioneer AV7200 IIRC)
I actually have no idea if there is an amplifier in my Z1, it was delivered from the factory with no radio (UK build)

Question about the speakers
I have the original “Z1 Audio System” which is just a branded Sony unit with an external amp that only appeared in the first 200 cars before BMW switched to other radios.
Interestingly my car is also a UK build.
it sounds better with the newer coaxial speakers, but still very distorted and serious clipping at higher volumes.
The “tweeters” in the dash are also pretty terrible and sound like a tinny AM radio compared to modern day tweeters.
After another long drive this weekend I’ve decided to upgrade the entire system and add two speakers in the rear with a small subwoofer.

Re: Question about the speakers
It seems like it should be possible to put a small subwoofer in the storage compartment behind the passenger seat?
And/or I wonder if https://www.morelhifi.com/product/virtu ... bon-2-way/ would fit? Quite pricey but supposed to sound amazing.
