Alarm issues

Post by wella_fella »

Hi all,

Just wondering if there are any alarm experts out there!

My alarm keeps going off for no reason!

I have narrowed it down to the sensors inside as when i press the red button inside the car (which switches of the sensors inside) the alarm does not go off.

Has anyone got any ideas how i can rectify this problem?

For now, just lock the doors using the key.
Then do a forum search

There are a number of alarm issues that arise on the Z3,

could be the radio sensor behind the head unit,
I also had issues with the bonet sensor, quite common.

In the end I had my entire alarm wiring ripped out by BM and replaced...

Good luck

Not that this will help much but every now and then mine goes off in the garage , i take the car out go for a quick blatt and then put it back.

Problem solved, maybe a month or two later it might do it again.

maybe a mercury switch or something, does yours do it everytime

My alarm has started playing up after nine months of being okay. It seemed to start after I washed the car a week ago. I need to find time to browse the forum but for now am just locking the doors. I will post if I find a solution.
Good luck :!:

Scotthall replaced the movement sensors with Z4 ones under extended warrantee due Z3 ones being prone to giving false alarms as mine were.

My alarm seems to be going off randomly.

For example, i went out in it last night and got home around 9!

Set the alarm and it went off at 12.15 and 1am! (Sorry neighbours)

It seems to be the sensors as i think the alarm does not go off if i press the red button before setting the alarm!

Use the Search button before posting newbie questions about hard tops and fitting kits, footwell speaker amps, water in the boot, hood maintainance and those horrific angel eyes. We get like 10 threads a week on the same subject, it's obvious that you haven't searched.

Well I had that problem. !st thing is to disconnect the bonnet sensor (pics on this site).
Then try locking door with remote and then pressing lock on it again a second after. The interior alarm light with flash quickly then return to normal. This turns off interior sensors and tilt sensor.
Check under bood lining on left in wing and see if wet in and around the tilt sensor.
Take out stereo and check pin from radio is closing the switch behind.
Finally check wiring loom into boot and boot lid. As these can break after boot useage!! Mine was random alarm the same as you, drove me totally mad!!
It turned out to be the wiring loom for me. Fixed broken wires and since been trouble free! Good luck!! :thumb:

If pressing the LED button prevents the problem, then assuming that the earlier alarm works the same as my later one, this disables just the interior movement sensors (usually ultrasonic) and the tilt switch in the boot, therefore it must be one or the other of those that is at fault.

You can check on the condition of the tilt switch if you look in the well behind the passenger wheelarch, below the tail light - you will need to undo the top clip and maybe loosen the tail lamp cover to get in. In the bottom of the well is the switch. This well often fills with water and can cause alarm probs.

I had a problem with my interior sensor recently - on mine, they are in the centre console just by the drivers left knee. I had the trim off and I disturbed a label one the alarm module - I know as I found it on the floor a few weeks later when it had worked its way out - the alarm would randomly go off in the interceding weeks.

At least if you press the button, your car still has a perimetric alarm on the doors, boot and bonnet. So you needn't annoy your neighbours too much until you sort it.

Cheers R
