Smoother running

Post by T48 TRE »

Hi All, yesterday morning, I was at Tesco with my wife and as I was fairly low on petrol decided to fill up!. For some reason I decided to use the Momentum grade which was about 5p a liter more expensive, but am supposed to get better millage with it. Well I haven't done a lot of running with it but the engine seems to be running much freer and smoother. Would this be possible after such a short time and only One fill. I have the 2.2 by the way.
Regards
Albert.

I believe that the sixes are optimised for 98 octane which is the claimed rating for Tescos finest.

Their standard grade is 95 octane.

I would expect it to be smoother as it is running more efficiently.

There's a marked difference in exhaust note when running higher octane instead of standard unleaded petrol on my 2.0l. Using an injector cleaner also improves the engine acoustics, I find STP injector cleaner makes things a little crisper.

I run a 3.0ltr Z3 2001 year and have always used BP Super, I am on my second tank of Tesco 99 and find engine idles nice and steady and seems to run better. I asked at petrol station the octane rating of Tesco 99 and surprise surprise they could not tell me, they were more interested in listening to the radio chat coming from main store, I have since discovered it is 99octane. :D
