Air con

Post by fg2810 »

Hi Guys , I noticed today that my air con was not working , thought it may just need recharging . however I noticed that the air con pump is not working . I have checked the fuses as listed 16 ,20 & 39 , these were all ok . the car is not in daily use and i`m sure it was working last year when I put the old girl away for the winter .

has anyone any other ideas ?

cheers Brian

the recommendation seems that you need to run air-con for at least 5mins a month, every month to keep it working.most of us don't !

Do you mean that the air con compressor is not rotating, or is rotating but not working?

the belt on the compressor is turning the inner pulley but the outer pulley is not rotating . On my 3 series when you turn the aircon on , the outer pulley starts rotating as well .

If the gas is low the pump will not kick in when the aircon is turned on. The pump is designed to only run if the gas is at the right level/pressure, sensors in the system will stop the pump from starting. It has a clutch built into the pulley which locks on & spins the pump if everything else in the system is ok. It may just need regassing

Cheers Heath , thats what I was wondering . Can you get the refridgerant to gas it yourself over here ( I have seen the yanks can buy some a product to recharge their selves ) or will I have to take it somewhere ?

Halfords do the gas recharge stuff in a can but for an extra £10 - £15 you can get it done properly where they suck all the old gas out & put the correct amount back in, usually with a small amount of lubricant & a dye to check for leaks
