the dreaded text message
'I know this isnt what you want to hear, but I'm really sorry - just damaged the wing mirror'
just got this from the wife. *trying not to fume* could happen to anyone.
Not sure what the damage is yet, but wing mirrors arent cheap i've noticed.
Pic to follow when she gets back. request for suggestions to follow after that. Suggestions for the mirror, not what to do to the wife.

Re: the dreaded text message
depends..it it's just paintwork...that's simple. If the glass mirror is broken...eBay...if it's the base....car strippers for a replacement...
Re: the dreaded text message
Ok, so we have a plastic crack, scuffing and paint transfer. The mirror itself is fine.
Hang on a minute..... Ah ....
So really i just need the plastic shell for the back, but i guess you cant get them separately. . ?

Looks like you can. Not sure about the cost vs a second hand one.
Re: the dreaded text message
oh, thats interesting, thanks!
It would be a lot easier to fix than a whole new mirror unit

From realoem.com
Re: the dreaded text message
They are (or at least were) available both painted and unpainted. Coopers list unpainted at £39.30 and painted at £127.01.
Whether a breaker would sell you part of a mirror, I don't know, but if they had one that had the rest damaged, then you might get one cheap and in the right colour.

Re: the dreaded text message
AFAICT BMW ebay shop is run by Coopers - so one would hope the prices were the same.

Re: the dreaded text message
Don't bet on it Rob...I've just ordered some stuff from Rossiters...their eBay price was around 20% more than ordering from them directly!!! I would say that because eBay and PayPal take a % of the sale, it will always be cheaper buying direct if you can. Obviously if it's "used" parts...you pay the price.
Re: the dreaded text message
Just had a look through bmw_direct's ebay FAQ and it would appear that they are actually BMW Park Lane. The must use the same price database as Cooper's are the prices are the same penny for penny - my local dealer is usually a little bit cheaper and I don't have to pay postage either. Obviously that doesn't help in S.A., but it may help the OP.
