A momentous day for my Zed
A momentous day for my Zed
An important milestone for my little Zed occured today - it reached 100,000 miles.
I bought it last August with 81,000 miles and have done 19,000 in nine months
I did something silly and recorded the event for posterity (see below ) but I couldn't let the occasion pass by.
Here are I couple of photos showing where I've been today - can anyone recognise the location?
Regards
Peter

I couldn't help but notice you have ///M dials but it isn't, is it?

Could it be the airship hangars built for R100 & R101 at Cardington near Bedford ?TR4man wrote: Here are I couple of photos showing where I've been today - can anyone recognise the location?

Stupot 50 - no it's just a bog-standard 2.0 wide body, but I think that the dials (and the steering wheel, gear knob and gaitor) with the ///M logos are all original factory fitted extras. Unless of course someone knows better!
Zedcarer - spot on!

Re: A momentous day for my Zed
Past the hangers on Sunday nice to see they are being done up .
Re: A momentous day for my Zed
Happy momentous day!
Those dials are definitely from an S50 ///MR. The S50 was the only (UK spec) model to have that logo on the dial and I'm not sure that your 2.0 would reach 155mph as the speedo suggests!
The dash pod must've been swapped out at some time, and not an easy job because AFAIK the ECU has to agree with the mileage figures on the pod.
To be honest, I'm surprised that unit is compatible with your car at all.
I guess it's possible that just the circular cards were fitted into the original unit...
You're correct that the other bits were optional extras from new.

That's what I thought, mine has all the other logo's which are detailed on the build sheet but not on the main dialsAlfie wrote:Happy momentous day!

Re: A momentous day for my Zed
Congrats on the 100k - at my present rate of annual mileage I should get there around 2020.
Cheers R.
Ahem, my 1.9 has a speedo that goes to 155 mph and the rest of the dials look just the same as those. If you change the cluster, the higher mileage between the new cluster and the ECU is supposed to be taken - if they don't agree, as tamper dot is supposed to be illuminated - however as pingu found out, things don't necessarily behave as described. I'd go with replacement cluster, as the logo looks too good to be non-OEM.Alfie wrote:Those dials are definitely from an S50 ///MR. Why so?Badman gee wrote:Oh no, the dreaded 100k mark
It's not a sad occasion.

You should be embarrassed for not using it more! It is like owning a racehorse and not letting it out of the stable.Robert T wrote:Congrats on the 100k - at my present rate of annual mileage I should get there around 2020.

I also think the more they are used (cars, not racehorses) the less likely things are to go wrong.
Now promise your nice Uncle Peter that tomorrow you'll take your Zed out and give it a good thrashing - it'll thank you for it!

I find reaching the pedals rather difficult when I am working in another country.TR4man wrote:You should be embarrassed for not using it more! It is like owning a racehorse and not letting it out of the stable.

Now that's a pretty feeble excuse. PM me your address and I'll whizz around tomorrow and show it a good time!Robert T wrote:I find reaching the pedals rather difficult when I am working in another country.TR4man wrote:You should be embarrassed for not using it more! Re: A momentous day for my Zed
I want to get down to around 40p per mile. At the moment I'm on about 75p per mile. The only way to do that is to drive it . Looks like you have the same plan.
They are not M dials, unless someone has blacked out a few thousand revs on the rev-counter .

And I thought it was only the S54 that rev'd to 9k....pingu wrote:They are not M dials, unless someone has blacked out a few thousand revs on the rev-counter .
Ouch. Ya got me.... Yep, someone is MORE ZED nerdy than me!
Scrub my previous post.

Re: A momentous day for my Zed
Well the red needles are not a standard cluster - mine are white - so my guess is that it is off a US spec ///M roadster, which had a different engine to our S50 and S54-engined ///M roadsters.

Yep, could be off one of those crappy under-powered American S52s.

Re: A momentous day for my Zed
What on earth is an S52?
Is it a later version of a B52?

Re: A momentous day for my Zed
It's a faster version of the M52 - and no I don't mean it has an extra lane and an 80 mph speed limit!
