dial colour change

Post by walter05 »

Has anyone tried fitting the tri coloured relacement dials advertised on Ebay/ Just wondering if they are an improvement on the black originals.

I have a suspicion that the op is contemplating these:

how do you remove the needles to replace the dials? a couple of years ago I replaced mine on another car which I printed onto a overhead projector film, I also did this on a aprilia bike I had. it would only work on the bulb lit type dislays like on the z3. if you print your own you can have whatever design you like, even personalise it.
heres one I used as a template before I modded it, to give you the idea

you can open them in windows paint, like this, then edit

Use two teaspoons, place them under the needles and gently lever them off. Make sure you put them back in the same position

Nice. I was looking at a Z3 with a saddle interior and it had black roll hoops but a matching saddle color OEM looking roll bar wind deflector. Did they make the OEM wind deflectors in other colors than black?

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

I replaced mine with white (and to kph). Got them from e-bay for 5 quid and took approx 40 minutes from start to finish for complete job. Very effective, also done them on my bike.

I tried some silver lockwood dials, I liked them in the daylight although I had mixed comment from other people.

At night they were awful, very hard to read! I swapped them back after trying them for a month just to be sure. I might have some photos somewhere on one of the other computers.

...there are 3 "twist=lock" devices which need to be turned about a 1/2 turn...then the perspex front face comes away. Once you have done that, you can remove the needles, and the face is glued to the front, but lifts off fairly easily.

Many thanks Southern Boy! Spot on instructions. The white dials look great and finished needles with wifes red nail vanish. Now for the refit. Cheers!
