The driver's door mirror housing on my Z3 has a little bit of left/right play on it causing it to annoyingly 'shake' when on the move (caused by airflow) is this a common fault and more importantly does it have an easy fix?
Thank you
Alan

Re: Wobbly door mirror
I don't know that it's a common problem - normally people have the opposite, that they've seized solid. Is it definitely the whole housing and not just the glass that's vibrating?
Re: Wobbly door mirror
Hi Bladerunner, its deftinately the housing and not the glass, gives the impression that something in the foot / base needs to be tightened up?

Re: Wobbly door mirror
Hate to say it, but it could be that previous owner had the mirror mount break on them and they a applied a "temporary" fix to it. The alloy bracket inside the mirror is prone to corrosion and after 10-15 years it does not take much to break them. There are two possible fixes that I know of, and it depends what is left that is still solid as to whether the putty solution will work, or whether you are better buying either a replacement plastic insert or a complete mirror. There was some debate on this recently - the plastic insert is not cheap, but it is a permanent fix, whereas a second-hand mirror is likely to suffer the same fate as the original within a few years.

Re: Wobbly door mirror
Or mine if it's only the steel collet that's rusted. Drill it out and use stainless steel nut and bolt to take up the tension in the re usable spring spring. Permanent and the mirror still folds backwards.
