Camshaft position sensor and Map thermostat replacement

Post by Jones67 »

Hi all I have been told today that the above parts need replacing on my 3.0 Z3  has anyone replaced these sensors?
I have been told that after replacing the thermostat the system needs to be bleed how do you do this?

Also would BMW replacement parts be recommended or far cheaper pattern parts?

On the topic of sensors, I have tried non-OE sensors in several makes of car and nearly always had problems to some degree. I would therefore, always recommend the high quality OE ones when it comes to sensors.

Here is a guide I wrote many moons ago for the M52TU engine but essentially the same as the M54. Don't even contemplate pattern cam sensors or you will regret it later.

Also check whether it is Position 1 or position 2 sensor. There is one on the Inlet and 1 on the Exhaust. I have just had mine replaced by a BMW approved indie for £144 fitted including full diagnostic of the car including Vanos

Why are you referring to a MAP thermostat? Try as I may I cannot fit any sensible description to that acronym . . .
