Vanos Unit - Do I have one

Post by johnz3 »

I have searched on the forum and also looked in the handbook with no luck. Can someone please advise whether my 2003 BMW 3.0i Sport has a vanos unit. Thanks

Your car will definitely have a a vanos unit, it will be a dual vanos unit.

Ok and thanks.

Do you or others know whether the Vanos problems were sorted by the time my car was manufactured.

I believe the problems people have with vanos units are age related and are mainly due to the various piston seals hardening with age and not sealing properly. Most firms that sell replacement O rings say they use a different material than OEM and that gives a great improvement in longevity.

A video here of them being replaced on a 3.0
