"Adjuster Unit DISA" / Fuel Consumption

In my last tank, for no obvious reason (like idling in traffic), I had a very uncharacteristic fuel consumption (from 10km/liter down to 7.5km/liter).
No codes (eg Lambda Oxygen Sensor). Having a quick look under the bonnet, I noticed a louder that usual clicking from the Adjuster Unit.
I'll wait to see what happens with this tank - but can the Adjuster Unit (pic in link) explain excessive consumption?

If it's making a clacking noise then its on its way out, had this with mine replaced it and all well again.
These are known to actually break and bits get sucked into the engine causing damage, best replace before it happens.

Difficult to say without hearing it, no harm in taking it out to check it, 12v applied to it when out will activate the flap so you can check it out. Giving it a clean and lube the pivot points to see if that makes any difference to the noise.
It's a costly replacement so worth checking it out before committing to spending out. Used part may be a cheaper option.

At 310k km I think it's worthwhile to bite the bullet and get a new DISA. (although a new engine would be a treat as my oil seals are hitting the dust one by one and I have a micro water leak in the head)
Anyone have a source for cheap parts? The best I have found is 208 quid.

There was another forum member complaining about the price of a new M44 DISA recently. The price seems to have recently jumped from around £145 to £234 in the UK Other than taking a risk with a 2nd hand one there seems to be no alternative to a new one. The repair kits appear to originate from the US and are only available for the different 6-cylinder DISA units.

I'm not sure about fitting a second-hand one. Could be out of the frying pan and into the fire. Also not sure someone would take it off an engine in a scrapper as it would normally be sold with the engine? Unless the engine was busted.

It was me complaining about the cost of a new one. I'm just hoping to see something on Ebay if I keep looking.

VAICO are the manufacturers of the BMW DISA components. I know the M54 part # is V 201375. I got mine from my local Meyle parts stockist, so possibly if you find a Meyle stockist, they may also carry the M52TU component you are looking for. In any event, these are quality parts, and probably are not as cheap as what you may find on eBay, but certainly will be as good as OEM.
You might google "VAICO PARTS STOCKIST UK".... Good luck hunting...

I picked up the Vaico OEM lead from the other active DISA post.

I have found it for £130 so far from the only UK distributor I could find. That's a good price but I'm trying to find other distributors to see if I can get lower.

False alarm.... My next tank gave 9km/l and the one after was 10 (my standard). So it was crappy fuel.
I then did a tank with an added a fuel cleaner (I have bottle of Redline Si-1 on the shelf) - it gave me just above 10 - so no real difference.
So we're back on a fuel consumption of 10km/l of 95 octane on my 315kkm M44 (1.9l)

Vaico do not appear to be the manufacturer for the M44 part. I wouldn't know about other engine types.

Just got a 110kmile DISA to replace my noisy one (315kkm). Now quiet. Had stable consumption at 10km/l. First tank after replacement was also 10km/l - so a working noisy DISA does not affect consumption.

are your sums correct, I get 13km/lt . m44 suppose it would depend on where you drive, mine is along country lanes and not that much town driving. I don't really speed either. unless my sums are wrong nah cant be me £10 will take me around 74miles. (around £1.14lt) just noticed your milage - 300 plus km, mine is at 140km, this will prob make a difference.

My sums are right. I suspect you are using a superior fuel and mine is automatic. Some have had similar numbers to mine and others to you. I recently bumped into a local Z owner who also has a M44 1.9L Auto, who drives mostly inter-city and he gets 11km/l - so it all makes sense.

a lot of drivers say there autos use more fuel, I had a Honda auto before my z but it was the same as other Hondas the same model, however a friend of mine has an e46 1.8 auto and its terrible compared to the z
