Fuel Cap Stop

Post by Ragtop »

My fuel cap goes in too far, I assume I must have a fuel cap stop missing. Has anyone got a photo of the stop showing where it should be positioned?

Many thanks
Ron

Cap or flap? :?

For the flap, on a pre-facelift, there is a little metal tab on the rear wing with a hole in it, that should have a rubber stop in it. My fell off years ago and I just stuck a self-adhesive foot on in its place.

For the cap, I don't know. I thought the rubber seal governed where that sits.

The rubber stop fits on the flap, not the wing! They always come loose and fall off, so I glued mine in with Evo-Stick, and it has been fine for about 12 years since then.

x2 thanks. Lost mine too a few weeks ago. I didn't notice at first, but realised something was missing when I filled up and heard a nasty metal noise when I closed the filler gap. Will also order a new one (and glue it in place).

I have to admit, I wrote that from memory. I stuck the rubber pad on mine YEARS ago, and I stuck it to the tab on the wing as it was the larger flat surface - I couldn't remember whether the hole for the original rubber stop was in the tab or in the flap. I assumed that I had stuck the rubber in the same position as the stop, but evidentially not. Sorry for any confusion.

I can see why you thought that Robert. Looks like we are all a bit wiser now. :) The part comes as a pair at £6.52 maybe the other one is a spare.

Strange they come as a pair, Ron, definately only need one for the car. I must admit a few years ago I bought a few of these whilst they were pennies, I think I am down to my last one.... Now where is that glue :)

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

For most people they will stay in for the life of the car, the glue is just a little insurance that it will not go AWOL again.
