Immobiliser removal

Post by fisherb »

Hi, does anyone know anyone who can delete the immobiliser funtion from my ECU for me? Its a 2.8 twin vanos and I'm really struggling.

Here's the scenario should anyone have any other suggestions:

Bought as a 1.9 (2001), replaced the engine with a 2.8 (1998 twin vanos) which I bought with EWS/DME/Key, etc.

All worked fine and drove for about 6 months.

Then I moved house and lost the key! Now I can't get a replacment key becuase I've changed the locks, and the immobiliser code doesn't match the VIN.

I've bought an ebay ecu, but it came with an EWS for a 3 series - the plugs are different and they have different functions so I don't think I can rewire.

Leaving me with two options I believe - source a full set of EWS/DME/Chip and replace all, or have the immob function deleted.

All getting a bit stressy as I'm meant to be doing a road trip to Dubrovnik in it in 5 weeks for a wedding!!

Anyone have any suggestions...

Geez, you couldn't make this story up! I feel for you and have to say Hertz or Easyjet for £74. I can only offer my best wishes.

No, its a really bad collection of events!!

I can't believe it's so hard to find someone who can just programme the immobiliser out of the ECU though!

http://www.porterbility.co.uk/Files/PDF/e36z3_01.pdf

p.197/198 shows the EWS III for a Z3.
Pin 14 on p.198 goes to Pin 33 on p.83 [Engine Control Module (DME)].
Pin 5 on p.198 goes to Pin 17 on p.83

I would investigate these by probing the wires on a car that you know is good. If the wires are 0v when the ignition is off and 12v when the ignition is on, then the EWS can be by-passed and the wires can be supplied with a fused 12v. If they are (as I suspect) signal wires, I think you are stuffed without help from someone who can recode your ECUs.

The starter immobilisation looks easy to rectify by bridging pins 7 & 8 of the EWS module.

Have fun - and have a fire extinguisher handy :D .

Its not possible to order a key to match an engine BMW tell me, only a chassis number and the engine was swapped! Possibly BMW being awkward but I got fed up of trying with them

Anyway, I'm going to go down the route of EWS deletion, I've found a guy here that does it should anyone need it:

the VIN number of the car, your engine comes from is written on the DME of the engine.
So if it is possible to order a key just by providing the VIN number go for it. I think it is the easier option.

I never spotted that! They asked for the V5 last time, but I'll give it a go, thanks :)

I've just re-read your OP.

If you have used the donor EWS and the donor DME, you will need the donor V5 to get a new key from BMW.

I would go down the EWS delete route and install a personal immobilizer.
