Can the arch liners come out without taking wheels off..
Can the arch liners come out without taking wheels off..
I've got a few jobs I wish to do over the winter period on my Zed and one of them is to remove the sills and check to see if any mud and crud is stuck behind the liners and just wondered if it's possible to get all four out without taking off the wheels..
Re: Can the arch liners come out without taking wheels off..
Yes you can. at least i have seen the body shop doing it to my car. they removed rear fenders and arch liners without taking off the wheels. Of course you will have to jack your car up first.

Iv'e just done mine & i think it would be difficult especially the front. The little screws can be
a swine to get off as the heads round off, i got new ones to replace them with also there are
two plastic nuts at the rear of the front liner which were really hard to remove & on mine
another one right behind the wheel which holds on the sensor plug/liner. Make life
easier & take wheel off. I only removed the lower screws & pulled down the sill as mine
only had surface rust & waxoyled inside, saved the hastle of removing all the trim
& side panel.

Re: Can the arch liners come out without taking wheels off..
Sorry to ask again but was it worth taking the back liners out.... as I imagine it would be the fronts that get trapped with leaves and dirt..
Re: Can the arch liners come out without taking wheels off..
Your right they don't get as much muck behind them but the end
of the sill can get corroded & they are easier to remove.Leave them till
Spring & just do the front for now & get the mud out, if your lucky
you might only have surface rust & wont have to take them right off.
If this is the case just remove the screws that run along the bottom
of the cill & put some blocks of wood between the cill & body to
hold them apart while you treat the corrosion & soak it in waxoyl.

Re: Can the arch liners come out without taking wheels off..
Cheers Bob I will do just that..
The car does look totally rust free around the wheel arches and sills so I'm hoping it's just a case of cleaning the area out and coating it with a bit of wax oil..and I've managed to get some grease behind the liners at the back of the car..
My other car (E36 compact) doesn't get treated near as well as the Z3 so will only get some old engine oil poured into the jacking points rather than paying out for a tin of waxoyl lol.

You will have to remove the 2 plastic jacking pads so as to pull down sill, just jack
in the gap where they came out then put axle stand under the two big bolts that
fasten the wishbone to the chassis. As i said the worst part was getting the 2
plasic nuts off the rear of liner, i squshed them a bit with a pipe wrench then
soaked them in WD40 then finaly got them off. I also replaced all the screws
with new as mine were corroded, 3/4 10s off ebay with washers attatched.
